Great.. I clicked on this and it woke up DW Lauri. She started watching it and got all fan-girly over John Taylor and Simon LeBon. :sad2: ;)
Because she has good flippin taste!

I still think they looked pretty good. Especially John. In the Simon vs. John thing, I'm on the John side. My best friend was a Simon girl, but I was a John girl.

And to this day I listen to those songs. I think "New Moon on Monday" is one of the best songs EVER!

Michael Jackson. In full on military jacket, one white glove, big sunglasses mode.

God, I was so into this when I was 13. I watched the documentary on MTV...I still remember these tidbits: They had to re-do Cyndi Lauper's line, because her jewelry too loudly when she jumped around as she sang. Huey Lewis filled in for someone who walked out and got a solo line. There was supposed to be some chorus of a made-up African sounding word (Sha-la! Sha-lingay!) but they rejected it for fear that it would actually sound like a real word (oh if only they had Google back then!).

I even organized a We are the World singalong at my junior high. We were on the news. I was such a dork.

I knew I had good taste :rotfl: I wasn't a Simon fan at all, just John

Oates...John Oates!

...and *** happend to all that money we sent there. Nevermind I've seen the AK-47's.

You're right. Bob Geldof wrote "Do They Know It's Christmas?" But, Quincy Jones produced "We Are the World."

Wooo!!! John Taylor! I just had a hot flash. He is soooo sexy!!! :faint:

John is Lauri's favorite too. I took her to a Duran Duran concert two years ago for her birthday. She had a blast and danced the night away completely forgetting about her constant pain and health issues. It was a great night. :thumbsup2

I think the answer to this question is SO obvious, my friend disagrees. Who is the first celebrity you think of related to the song 'We are the World." ?
Without looking at anyone else's answer, I say Michael Jackson.

I would so very much like to say Al Jarreau, but, alas, if I'm to be honest, I must say that I think of Michael Jackson.

More interesting (to me, anyway) are the second and third celebrities I think of:

2. Bob Dylan, because it was the first time in my life that I had been exposed to his almost pathologically nasally singing voice. And, ah, how things do change... what I recoiled at in my callow youth, I've learned to savor in my frustrated middle age.

3. Prince protege Sheila E. Why her, you ask? Because of the fact that it was supposed to be His Royal Badness, himself, who sang on the seminal, if eternally-playing-second-fiddle-to-the-far-superior-Band-Aid-track-"Do-They-Know-It's-Christmas?", recording. But he didn't. And why not? Because he was in the process of having his bodyguard, Big Chick Huntsberry, lay flat a couple of of photographers. So instead, he donated the middling "4 the Tears In Your Eyes" to the We Are the World album.

He wasn't in it, but I cannot get Joe Cocker out of my head. I think it's b/c my mind can't seem to get his singing style separated from Bruce Springsteen's style.

I know. Heresy. One of my best friends is from New Jersey and I shouldn't admit it aloud, but I just have never been a big fan of Bruce's.

[runs and hides]

As for Do They Know It's Christmas...I loved that song but it drove me INSANE b/c most of "they" aren't even Christian, so why on EARTH would they care if it's xmas or not? Bonkers, I tell you. Made my mom bonkers too, and she WAS Christian (though I didn't know it at the time...she was a closet Christian, LOL), and still felt like the song was silly and disrespectful to the religions of the people it was meant to help. Sure made "us" feel good, though, didn't it?
