If your thermostat is set to 69 degrees in the heat mode when the air kicks on should the air be hot or cool?

Thanks.

If it's a heat pump it's always COOL air. It puts out air at the temp that you've requested. So if you've asked for 69 degrees, it's going to put out 69 degree air, which will feel cool.

If you've got gas or oil or baseboard heat, it should put out warm air until the room gets to 69 degrees.

It may blow out room temprature air, depending on current temp.

Say it is 90 degrees outside and you set it on HEAT MODE but at 69 degrees, the heater(since it is heat mode) can not COOL that air down to 69 so it is just blowing out room temprature air.

This probably explains why the air feels cool....I never knew. Thanks.

My thermostat has a switch that is either "cool" "off" "heat"

The temperature is a different switch. So - 69 and cool would use the a/c unit and 69 and heat would use the heat unit.

I think that's what would make the difference - what mechanism is the thermostat hooked up to?

Cool question (no pun intended).

I hate heat pumps for this very reason.

Gas heat is about the only way I ever stay warm in the winter.
