My daughter fell off her scooter yesterday. She was still hurting today so I took her to the Urgent Care clinic. Turns out she has TWO broken wrists! Right now both arms are in splints at 90 degree angles and we have to go see an ortho doctor tomorrow to see about getting them casted. She is only 9 and very independent so this is going to be a rough couple of weeks for her (and me!). Please say a prayer that her wrists heal quickly and that she adapts to the casts as much as possible.

Ouch...that sounds like a bad crash. Good luck at the ortho....I can't imagine...I guess she can't do anything for herself?

The poor thing! I hope she can heal quickly and that she can be kept comfortable in the meantime. :grouphug: to both of you!

Ouch. Good wishes for your daughter, Colleen. What a bummer. Kids are resilient though.

So sorry - that sounds awful. Sending prayers and pixie dust!!

:grouphug: Sounds very painful. Hope your DD has a speedy recovery.

:grouphug: Good thoughts and prayers being sent.

The good news? Kids heal fast. REALLY fast. DS (8YO) broke the radial head in his right wrist this past summer. He was only in the cast for 3 and a half weeks. And was cleared to play soccer one week after the cast came off.

When you see the ortho, ask about the waterproof cast. DS's cast was fiberglass outer (BRIGHT BLUE) and this liner that was similar to the Tyvek stuff they use for moisture barriers in houses. TOTALLY waterpoof. DS swam for 7 hours in the ocean 2 days after the cast went on. Made showering REALLY easy too.

Good luck to both of you, and you'd be amazed at how quickly they adapt to having casts on.

You can PM me if you have any other questions. I swear I grew more grey hair over that one incident

DS13 broke his wrist in Oct. His cast went up above his elbow to his upper arm. Hoping she has a speedy healing.

Oh that poor baby!! And I say that from personal experience! I broke both arms just below the elbows, at the same time, in a fall from a bike. Has to be the most painful thing I've ever felt in my life. Thank goodness you are there with her. I lived alone. Think about how many things you couldn't do without your arms. Zip your pants? Wipe your bum? Answer the phone? Even drive your car? When your boyfriend moves in for a few weeks and wipes your bum for you that's REAL love. No, I didn't marry him.

pixiedust: and good wishes to your dd.

I really appreciate your kind thoughts and words. We went to the ortho doctor today and he casted both arms just below the elbow. After the huge splints last night, I think it was a welcome relief. She will be in the casts anywhere from 4-8 weeks. She's such a tough kid and I am so proud of her! Thanks again!
