I am desperate need of some hugs and warm wishes. I was just informed that my contract for my job is being terminated and that I will no longer be employed as of March 31. Amazingly, this has put a damper on my Disney Cruise/Vacation that I am leaving on in exactly 3 weeks. I am just finding it hard to smile and be excited right now. Thanks.

I am sorry. Maybe you can find something else before you cruise and you can , then, celebrate.:)

:grouphug: Hope things work out!

Years ago, my DH was laid off. Looking back we regret that we didn't take the time to go on vacation. You go into a defensive mode and think that you can't go and have fun. Take the time to have fun and hopefully things will work out when you get back.

Best Wishes go out to you! I know it's hard to believe at a time like this but I always try to tell myself "things happen for a reason". Hopefully your reason will turn out to be a good (no, great) one!

Hang in there! I hope that everything looks up for you very soon.

A quote for you:

"I've learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not on our circumstances."
--Martha Washington

Keep your chin up. :)

Just remember when a door closes, a window opens!

Have a good time on your cruise and just keep trying to see that eventually there will be a silver lining!

<<<<<<hugs to you>>>>>>

To continue with the theme: Maybe there is a silver lining in this cloud.

I believe that everything happens for a reason. You have till the end of march before the loss of your job. Try to go on the cruise and have fun so you will be relaxed and ready to fight for a new and better one.

It is easy for me to say that my job isn't going to end for at least 12 months. We will see how I do then. My prayers go with you.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts.:goodvibes I knew this would be a good place to turn to. I am beginning to feel better. I think the fact that my cruise documents came in really helped. :cool1: My family keeps telling me that I need to enjoy the whole experience or I'll be kicking myself later and I think they are right (as are all of you). Besides, as my mom has reminded me, my trip is already paid for. I am just going to sit back and enjoy and take everything one day at a time. Now I'll just think about the fact that I have less than three weeks left and have absolutely nothing done for this vacation.:scared1:

Once again, thank you all.

ITA! Life is short, so enjoy it while you can!

5 years ago DH lost his job. We both took it really hard and (as I'm a pessimist by nature) I thought it was the end of the world as we knew it, we'd never have the money again to do what we want, blah blah blah.

I can honestly say that losing that job was the best thing that ever happened to us, and I hope that you'll soon be able to say the same.

Go on your vacation and have a blast!

Lots and Lots of pixie dust pixiedust: for you and your family! There is magic coming your way! I know it is difficult right now to believe it but hey you never know who you will meet on your vacation that may just show you that new opportunity! The biggest rule of looking for a job is to tell everyone you are looking! Tell stories about what you do for a living and how you are looking forward to your next opportunity when it comes! If you look at it this way you have just been givin the chance to look into something possibly wonderful!

You are a champ! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Seeeeeeeeeee. Everything happens for a reason. You needed those documents to cheer you up! More blessings are on their way, I'm certain! Enjoy your vacation! You're going to look fabulous on those interviews with a little sun in your cheeks and a kick in your step from the excitement you received on the cruise! :sunny:

My husband lost his job several years ago and we considered cancelling our cruise but didn't. One thing the cruise can do is make you temporarily leave your troubles behind. Go and enjoy every minute with your family. At the time there were several posts here of people with serious illnesses or the loss of a loved one, so it helped me put in perspective how lucky I was.

The job thing was a struggle for quite a while, but there can always be something worse and the Disney cruise was a bright spot in a bad time.

Just let go of your problems the best you can and make the most of what the cruise has to offer.

Good luck with finding a better position.

I'm sorry this happened to you...but please try to keep your chin up. Your mom is right - the cruise is paid for - so that should not be a burden to you. And don't feel guilty taking this vacation, because once you start your new job (see how I already know you will have a new job), you most likely will have to put in some time before you are eligible for vacation there. Do your best to look forward to this time, enjoy the heck out of it while you are there and then come back, re-group, and start your search. This time away can give you a whole new perspective and energy about your future. And who knows, an opportunity may come you way via people you meet there! You can network on vacation too! :grouphug:

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this right now. It sounds like you are making the best of the situation already. Things are a little tough here right now, too, but our cruise, although over a year away, is like a beacon of light for dh and me right now. Best to you.

Its hard, but it really will be ok in the end :grouphug:

Once again, thank you all so much. After thinking more this weekend I am seeing things in a different perspective, and you all helped (so did the fact that I have my cruise documents in my hands now and I can't seem to stop smiling). I will now have time to spend with my little guy (a.k.a. my son). SInce I am a teacher, any job I get will probably not start until September, so I might as well enjoy this time and do all of things that I have been putting off and in due time I will be busy again correcting papers. The first thing I should do is pack.

Thank you all again. This is such a wonderful place. Oh, if you have any hugs left, please send them towards the way of my niece. She fractured both of her wrists this week and she is cruising with us on Feb. 14. She is really bummed right now. SHe could a little ray of sunshine. Thanks.

A few questions from a fellow teacher:

Is your position definitly being terminated, or were you just given notification of possible termination so the school complies with notification laws? I know many teachers who recieved the dreaded pink slip "just in case" their position had to be eliminated the next school year, and they never lost their jobs. Always made for a few tense months though.

It seems odd to me that your position is being eliminated in the middle of the semester. Have you spoken to your union rep. to make sure that everything is being done correctly?

Everything will be fine, and yes you should still go on the cruise! Good teachers will always find a home! :grouphug:
