Hi - this is my first post here - I have been reading for about 10 months. My family and I - DH, DD 6 and DS 4 are getting ready to leave for the Poly in about 11 days :) :bounce: Yeah!!! I was so excited about it until I started to read some negative comments recently. Please tell me I made the right choice since we are stretching ourselves a bit. I made a request of Rarotonga 1st or 2nd floor quiet pool view.

Also, I was wondering are there lines for the monorail at the CGH or do you usually hop right on?

Thank you so much!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Relax, you made the right choice - the Poly is the BEST resort on WDW property....IMHO!:sunny: My favorite longhouse is the Tahiti and the Rapa Nui because they are very close to the Transportation and Ticket center AND because they have the largest rooms at the poly AND double sinks!!!!::yes::

I have never had to wait in a long line for the monorail at the GCH or the TTC - I just hopped right on! The Poly also has kids activities during the day that my kids LOVED!!! Don't miss watching Wishes on the beach at night - it is so magical!!!:wizard:

PS - I almost forgot....check out Tikiman's webpage! He is the authority on the Poly! http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/

Hi,

There will always be negative and positive reviews on this board. My guess is that the positives outnumber the negatives.

We have been to the Polynesian 6 times over the past few years and have never experienced anything that would qualify as negative. We have never had a negative experience at any of the resorts we have been to. We love just being there!

Go, relax, enjoy !

Deb

My family loves the poly. Your kids are great ages to go there. You can see the castle from the beach and watch the electric parade .....we have been to WL, BWV,Dolphin,BC,PO & DL...and my kids now 15, 14 still love the poly......still talk albout the pool, guava juice and being so close to the monorail.

it is truly a magical experience and it is wonderful being right where the rails are. You will love it.........

have great time

crazyforthemouse - Welcome to the DIS!!

We love the Poly, and have been there twice this year. Every trip we make, right before we leave there are negative posts about the resort we're about to spend time in. Makes me nervous every time, and every time we go and have a great time!!::yes:: I'm not trying to say the posters are wrong or not being truthful, just that every resort has problems now and then, but it's not the norm.

We stayed at Poly in Aug. just a couple of days after Charley blew through, and the cm's were just as wonderful as always, we had great service and a wonderful time. There were a couple of minor incidents where they just didn't have enough personnel to go around, but nothing big and it certainly didn't affect our trip.

So go, have a blast, I'm sure you and your family are gonna love it. There's nothing better than returning from the parks by monorail or boat, strolling through the grounds by the light of tiki torches and seeing the "kiss goodnight" at the Castle! Wow - I'm starting to wish we were headed there right now!!:teeth:

We love the Poly so much that our girls don't want to go to WDW unless we are staying there! They even said "we will give up all of our Christmas presents if we can just go to the Poly and WDW!" The convience is so nice and the whole place is just a wonderful "other" world.

Go and have fun, we'll be home wishing we were there!

I take all negative reviews with a grain of salt.

The Poly is great. Rarotonga is a great location. I stayed in that building for our honeymoon. :)

Have fun!
:sunny:

Thanks for posting this question. We will be at the Poly at the same time as you and I was starting to get discouraged. I am just looking forward to being in Disney with my family.

Maybe we'll see you there...I'll be the one with the lime green mickey head and grin from ear to ear!!!

Have a great trip!!!

My 5 y/o DD is the same way. She doesn't want to even go to WDW if we don't stay at the Poly. We've been there 6 times in the last 3 years and just LOVE it. The last trip was a little over 2 weeks ago and it was wonderful as usual. The CMs were friendly, always saying Aloha, the room was spotless and no smells or mold, and the pool wonderful. We have always found it to be this way. You will always hear complaints no matter what resort you choose. A few months ago there was an upswing of GF complaints so take them with a grain of salt and GO. Only 350 more days till I am back there again. To the OP, go and have a fabulous time!! Wish it were me!

Hi! Our family will be at the Poly at the same time you are!! DD (5) is so excited!!! Maybe we'll see each other at the pool!! Hope it's warm enough to swim! This is our first time there too. We're trying to stay at Tokelau because it looked central to everything. It's also close to the Neverland Club and Moana Mickey's Arcade.
I have a DS (17) that will probably like the arcade. Safe trip!!

Relax, the negative post about the Poly I feel were a setup from one poster just to get the ire up of us here on the DIS. There have been some legit bad experiences but you always will have a few from such a large resort. I have read similar reports off and on about all the resorts at one time or another. We have stayed there twice and LOVED it both times. We have stayed in Rapi Nui and Tokalau and each have their own advantages. We loved the landscaping and pleasant nightly walks around the resort with the music piped into the walkways and the ducks walking all over the place...smjj

We will be there at the same time as you are. We actually leave in 9 days so we hit the single digits today.

We just love the Poly and everything about it. We love to watch wishes and the electric parade from the beach.

You are going to love it there.

The same poster in which you speak also sent me nasty hate mail. I wouldn't believe a word he says.

I stayed at the Poly for the first time in October and loved it! The grounds are beautiful and I found most of the staff to be very friendly. I stayed in Tahiti and did not notice any mold or mildew smells. Housekeeping was also great ... they were fast and made sure we had enough towels and supplies.

We just booked our Poly. GVC trip and could not be more excited!!!!! Haven't been there since I was 10, but I'm 100% sure we're going to L-O-V-E IT!! I was very thorough with all of my researching hotels and only wanted the Polynesian.

We'll be there during Spring Break time, and a teeny part of me kinda' doesn't mind negative posts because I figure maybe it'll mean that the hotel won't be packed to the nines. But then reality sets in and I realize that it'll be sold out!

Have a fabulous time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We leave for the Poly in 20 days. I have also been a bit worried about the negative posts lately, but I just know we will love it! And, if by some reason we don't, we'll still make the best of it and enjoy our vacation! (But I am convinced that won't happen!)

Can't wait to get to the Poly!

Lisa

There is no resort as magical and romantic as the poly!!

Its the attention to detail thats phenominal, Great Ceramonial House, lava-type walkways, drum music on pathways, electric light parade and now Wishes from the beach.

What I enjoy, since I am an early riser, is coffee on the beach & pathway by the lake at 6 or so AM, seeing the castle, no one around, hearing MK music coming from across the lake....ah paradise!!
:faint: :faint:

We had been going every year...since it opened in 71 (when we paid $42.00/per night in the longhouse (Tonga?), facing the lake)and many times twice a year @ other resorts!!!!

A first trip is just sooooo exciting!!!!!:cool1: :hyper: :cool1:

You made a good choice. With kids your age the Poly is perfect.
The convenience of the monrail is priceless, you do walk right on.
The kids will like the parade at night in the lagoon, especially watching it while they swim in the pool. I love to look at the castle at night. The only thing I noticed the past 2 years is that the CM service isn't as friendly as it use to be. But it certainly never made our trip any less special. We will be back at the Poly next August for our annual trip. My kids ages 10 & 13 have loved it for the past 5 years. My kids loved the Netherland Club on our first visit when they were 5 & 8. Enjoy your trip!
