Please Read... the Tag Fairy is very upset

The Tag fairy contacted me tonite. They are very upset. They exist to bring joy and happiness and surprises to people.
They can't do that any more. The tag fairy has decided to go back to what made people happy.
They are going to surprise people, the way it was in the begining and the way it was meant to be. What that means is that if you ask for a tag you can expect not to get it. If you start clapping threads, begging threads, email, pm, instant message or telegram anyone...you can expect not to be tagged.
They ONLY way to be tagged is for the tag fairy to find you and surprise you.
Everyone should also realize that the tag fairy doesn't tag based on how popular you are. Usually it's a split second decision because something caught their eye.
The Tag fairy also asked me to say that they really hope everyone goes along with this. They really don't want to leave the Dis... but they may have to.... unless they can go back to bringing joy to people....

I can certainly understand the Tag Fairy's frustration.

Unbelievable that something that started out so fun and so spontaneous and surprising (which was the best part about it all) has suddenly gotten to be such a topic of debate and ill feelings.

It's unbelievable how little it takes to get so many pairs of knickers in knots.

I just felt the need to come out of lurk mode to say this and to thank Alex and Lauri for trying to put some controls on this topic gone wild.

Thanks Alex. I didn't know about the tags until today. But do understand about bringing happiness to surprises to everyone. It's an extra surprise, and it's neat to read what notes people have tagged.

I wasn't aware that this had become the topic of debate and ill-feeling as I usually hang-out on the UK forums, but I can understand how that could happen. I think the problem with the whole Tag Fairy thing is that it's cliquey and divisive - you're either "in" or "out". It's a club within a club, which seems to go against the community spirit of these boards. Everyone wants to belong, not just those who've been singled out for favour. I guess that's why people beg and cajole.

With the increased capacity of the new servers, I wonder whether it would be possible to allow everyone a little more freedom with their own tags in terms of capacity and colours. That way no-one will feel left out and the Tag Fairy will be free to spread her magic in the way she intended.

Honestly I was tagged a while ago, never even noticed it. Could care less, don't know who does it and again could care less. Yet it seems to be a subject of great concern.

Here is my concern, apparently someone was tagged with a rather nasty tag, they did not want. That is an abuse of power. If that person was in my employ they would be fired. Whether it was done in fun or not, intentional infliction of emotional distress is deplorable. While I have no idea if this was done by a mod, the "tag fairy" or whoever, it should be dealt with.

So giving someone free reign to access my profile, which I am asked to fill out worries me. Whose to say this same person may take a dislike to me and screw with my info. They have demonstrated their ability to do so even when requested not to do so.

I have been on these boards for 3 years and have had a great time, but this concerns me.

Unfortunately this software doesn't allow users to set their own tags with HTML or trust me I would allow it!

I'm afraid I'm one of those people who recently posted a thread thanking the tag fairies for my first tag. The tag was a very pleasant surprise and I really wasn't aware of the controversy over thanking them/bringing attention to tags. I'd seen other people post "Thank you for the tag threads" and I actually thought that it would be perceived as rude if I didn't send thanks. I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feeling with that post or put more pressure/aggravation on the tag fairies.
