From WebmasterAlex:

I know everyone has been seeing the "server busy" message often and it's very frustrating. We just keep getting busier and the servers run out of steam. At one point today we had about 2000 users on.
I'm looking for short term solutions but the real answer is another server upgrade and that takes a little time to arrange. I think we have outgrown anything I can do with 2 servers and we are going to have to move to a server farm of 3 servers so it needs quite a bit of research. I'll try to get it done as fast as I can!

Who knows what time sharing is, other than a resort or a condominium?

If you are under 30 you might not know.

It's like using the computer as you do now, but you have a monitor, a keyboard, a dial up modem, but no box with a processor inside, the PC itself.

Also they did not have mice in those day, other than real Mickeys which you might feel on your knee (Honey I shrunk...) if you played computer games all night and had pizza brought in and left around. There were no windows or fill-in blanks. You typed something and the computer answered back, or the computer asked a question and you answered, much like chat rooms today.

When I was in college they had time sharing. One hundred users corresponded to "crowd level ten". I still remember hitting Enter and having nothing happen for what seemed like an eternity. Back then the system did not say "server busy", "it just sat there". Then there were other frequent times when I got consistent busy signals trying to dial in. One spring break, drove to Florida. Not really interested in Disney but visited for one day, only the MK was there. Somehow I don't remember it being crowded nor do I remember long lines. Could the separate ride ticketing (E-tickets, etc.) have kept lines down to manageable levels?

Heh heh...them were the days! :thumbsup2

Love them 80x25 -CHARACTER- screens. Green on black. My colors of choice on any character display to this day.

:smooth:

If you work for the right (or wrong) company you can still see green on black to this day...and use TSO.

I'm wondering...isn't there anyway to keep excess people from entering? So you get Server Busy only when there isn't an available slot to get in. Its kind of annoying to get it in the middle of a post.
