Please Read- important board moderating change

I've always wondered why some Disney-related companies' websites are in the filter rules, given that they seem to be reputable and well-respected in their industries. Do you happen to know?

I can tell you exactly why. Our policy is that no site is placed in the filter just because they are a competitor. They are placed there when there is an effort to spam our boards.
One sure sign is when we start to see threads like "I would only use Carl's Agency! He is the best".
Normally you see a site mentioned in the manner that you indicated in an earlier post, for example on a thread on booking cruises someone might say, I used Carl's and I was happy with the experience.
You would be amazed at how often when we track back a thread like the first one the poster turns out to have an email address of carl@carls.com!
We are not going to tolerate our boards, that we supply to the community for free, being used to push other businesses.

It's too bad that people do that, and I'm frankly surprised and disappointed to hear that the company I previously mentioned did such a thing.

I appreciate you folks looking out for us as much as you can in that regard. I, like many others, use DISBoards users' recommendations, but I had always wondered how many of the recommendations were actually posted by employees of the companies in question.

If you folks are keeping track of that, then I guess I don't have to worry too much (although, of course, they could be using a different email address to disguise who they are...:sad2:).

Thanks for the response! It's nice to know how things work, so things don't seem so arbitrary. I feel much better about it now. :)

I like this idea! The 2007-2008 election season could leave a bloody battlefield among the ranks of those of us who wander into those threads.

But there just went ALL of the fun!;)

Goodbye to all of our favorite sayings. Need I mention them.;)

So much for this having any significant change. They left the door open to allow the same kind of stuff that is causing the problems now.

Might as well have done nothing at all with that being the case. :sad2:

Actually, Mike, this new system will clear that up quite a bit because now there will be a clear cut, black and white record in their infractions that they HAVE been warned in the past to stop the behavior in question. That record is available to all of us. No more not knowing that another Mod has already spoken with them on the same subject 10 days ago and they receive countless warnings which they are obviously ignoring.

We are getting a lot of questions about specific rules. I want to make sure something is clear. We have not changed or added to any of the board rules as shown on the board guidelines page. The idea here was a new way to handle violations, the rules are the same as they have always been.

i know you probably don't care what i think, but i think this is a great idea.

Can we get a ceremonial first points? You know, like throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game. :lmao: Toss the first points out to someone! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Speaking of posts blatantly advertising something, I just wondered how long it took before a post gets pulled when somebody alerts a mod about it? Does it just depend on which board it's on or something? Because the post I'm talking about is not on one of the faster-moving boards, but I'm sure other people have probably reported it too.

Hey.... not me!!! I didn't ask for them. Well, I didn't get points just a warning but I'm sure the points will soon follow.... LOL

I will admit that I was in violation and totally deserved it. There. I "outed" myself. And to a Gator no less.

If it is in the filter and you do anything to "work around" the filter that is a violation of board rules. That is not new, it's always been the rule

K thanks. I don't try to get around the rules so I guess I wouldn't think of it anyway.

A reported post just goes to the moderators of that board. It depends on how long it takes for one of them to be online
