Please Read- important board moderating change

I like it. It sounds like a much fairer approach. I also feel like I can breathe a little easier knowing that some random axe isn't going to fall on my head.

I like it too. Random axes are really painful, so any deviation from that is a plus in my book.

As someone who lives primarily in the political threads (although I do have a valid exit visa), I would respectfully ask that for a certain period of time at first (call it an introductory period) that if a poster draws a point penalty for a sarcastic post that the moderators publicly announce in that thread that such a penalty has been metered out and illustrate the exact reason why.

The purpose of this request is to allow Groucho disciples such as myself to properly ascertain just what is and isn't allowed as so to properly conform to the rules.

To use a sports analogy, as a pitcher on any given day we don't know how the umpires are calling balls and strikes (since it's entirely arbitrary and the strike zone differs from umpire to umpire) until we throw a few pitches and see whether the borderline calls are ruled balls or strikes. Then we can adjust our pitches accordingly.

i just wish there was a means to find out what the dis deems as profane language.

i mean i don't have the habit of using profanities in my personal speech or on-line, but i've gotten word's filtered out (and warnings from mods) by virtue of some standard of acceptable language that i just don't get. words that are not profane by any stretch of the imagination (the technical term for certain female body parts is filtered-yet the slang/street terms that are far more 'family unfriendly' are acceptable ). just does'nt make sense to me.

so i guess i better be careful-no more posting to med threads unless i know the acceptable slang/street for the anatomy, and lord help me-no more posting to threads about mary poppins-i'm always getting filtered for trying to post the actor's name who played 'bert'.

No, not the French guy. Someone flying under the mods radar though. He's been banned alot I hear, but he's back. Oddly, I've never spoken to him or even about him. I think it was the photo of me he was more interested in. He labelled it pretty meanly too. But oh well, what can ya do. Not bothered really.

I did answer when we say sarcasm we are refering to sarcasm that is used against someone to be mean. As I told the moderators if just being sarcastic was an offense I would have had to ban myself years ago

Does the "Filter Violation" include references to competitor websites to DISboards.com sponsors? When folks ask about how to get information, I often respond telling them about Tour Guide Mike and Touring Plans dot Com (in those words). Does that count as a violation, given that spelling out the url for Touring Plans dot Com will be asterisked out?

Or are you only talking about profanity?

I understood it to be an issue of bypassing the dis filter. In other words if you type www.websitename.com and it comes up ********** then you're safe. However, if you type www web.site.name com to ensure the name comes up, then it's in violation. At least that's how I interpret it.

I've always wondered why some Disney-related companies' websites are in the filter rules, given that they seem to be reputable and well-respected in their industries. Do you happen to know?
