Please pray for my mom.

After a long fight, we got her to move out of her big old house into an apartment. At News Years, she fell. Injured her foot and broke her shoulder. Fortunately, her neighbor heard her yelling for help.

Last month, she ended up having surgery to fix her shoulder. She’s having to have surgery again on Monday. The incision site is still oozing, so they think the metal pins have become infected.

We’re all worried about her. Esp since she said to my brother the other day that it would be easier if she weren’t around.

Surgery went well. Took all the metal pins out - they didn't appear infected - but just in case. She may have been having a reaction to them. She's staying at hospital for a few days, so they can run more tests. We'll see. She's feeling relatively chipper, all things considered.

That isn't an uncommon comment from an old person, especially from one who is suffering. Make sure you let her doctor know she's so sad. He may prescribe something to help her.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

It's always difficult when someone you love is incapable of living the life they have been accustomed to.

My grandmother is 77 years old. You wouldn't think she's 77 by looking at her; maybe 65 at the most. She's still very mobile, and has been living alone for over 30 years. The problem is that she insists on doing hard physical labor (such as mowing her 1/2 acre yard, which is up a steep hill) and straining herself in her garden and around her large home. We've been trying to talk her in to moving in to a 55+ community less than 3 minutes from our house. She keeps telling us that she's fine and doesn't want to go through the hassle of moving, even though she has been visiting the doctor almost every other week for joint pain and very poor blood levels.

It's best to get an older family member in a more sensible situation sooner than later, when moving will be a true hassle.

I am sending prayers and good thoughts to your mom and your family! It is often a difficult adjustment for a parent to move out of their home and then to have the unfortunate event of falling (same thing happened to my mom. But I encouraged her daily as she was ready to give up and she went back to live in her apartment and lived alone for another 7 years). I know your family will continue to encourage her that she will get through this rough patch and have many more enjoyable years with her loving family!
