Well my kids are home due to a snow day today and I thought I would start my Christmas cookie baking.

I'd like to change it up a little this year and add a couple new cookies. But I hate just blindly picking a recipe out of a cook book.

So I thought I'd ask here.

If you don't mind, I'd love if people would post their recipe for their favorite Holiday cookie or dessert

My kids are home from school due to the snow today too! LOL!
My favorite holiday treat I like to make is the oreo balls. They are super simple and everyone loves them. All you do is mix a package of cream cheese with a package of crushed oreos. Roll them into balls and dip in melted chocolate. Refrigerate. After they cool I then drizzle with the opposite color of chocolate that I dipped them in. My family loves them. We also love the chocolate dipped pretzels.

Look forward to seeing lots of new ideas and recipes.

Wow, these sound really good. I'm definitely adding them to my list this year.

It's a tie between these two....

Seven Layer Bars

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup graham crackers, crushed
1 cup coconut
1 cup butterscotch chips, optional
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts
1-15 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

Directions:
Combine melted butter with cracker crumbs in 9x13 inch pan. Press firmly into pan. Layer in order, the coconut, butterscotch chips, chocolate chips and nuts. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over all ingredients. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Makes 2 dozen.

Snickerdoodles

3 C. all-purpose flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1-1/2 C. sugar
1/2 C. butter, softened
1/2 C. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
*******
3 tablespoons. sugar
1 tablespoon. cinnamon

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. and lightly grease baking sheets. Combine flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt; set aside. Cream sugar, butter and shortening. Beat in eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy. Stir in flour mixture just until blended.

Combine 3 T. sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Shape dough into 1 inch balls and roll in sugar-cinnamon mixture to coat. If dough is too soft to handle, dust hands lightly with sugar-cinnamon mixture. Place on baking sheet about 2 inches apart.

Bake 6-7 minutes or until set around the edges. The center of the cookie will be soft. Cool on wire rack.
Removing them from the oven when the centers appear to be not quite done gives the perfect chewy center/crispy edge cookie – so delicious! These are my family’s favorite cookie.

HAPPY BAKING!

go to Food TV-- two of our favorites are there-- Ina Garten's recipe for Jam Thumbprints and Paula Deen's for white chocolate cherry chunkys!

Ina Garten also has brilliant recipes for brownies and rugelach that we like to make but we don't make them at Christmas.

Well, not very original but my favorite is still Tollhouse CC with a box of vanilla pudding mixed in. Yummmmm

Do you just add the dry mix or do you actually make the pudding first? What does it do to the cookies? Sounds interesting. My DS loves anything with vanilla.

You just add the pudding mix. I add it before adding the flour. I am pretty methodical about my cookies. I make sure that I really beat the eggs and butter before adding the sugar. The pudding gives more volume to the cookies and makes them more flavorful. No one can pinpoint that there is pudding in them but everyone who tries them says they are the best they tasted. I actually add pudding to most of the things I bake. It helps keep things moist.

Sounds good! I will have to try these.
Thanks,

These are always a big hit! Very simple and yummy! :thumbsup2

TOFFEE BARS

1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 packed cup brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
pinch of salt
1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
½ cup chopped pecans
4 Hershey milk chocolate bars

Preheat oven to 350º Lightly grease a 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Thoroughly combine butter, brown sugar and egg yolk. Blend in vanilla extract and salt. Smooth batter evenly into prepared pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately place chocolate bars on top of warm “cookie.” Loosely cover with foil. When chocolate is melted, spread evenly over “cookie,” leaving a ¼ inch edge. Sprinkle with nuts. Chill for 15 minutes or until chocolate is set. Cut into small bars.

HAPPY BAKING!

I have nothing to contribute. I just have to say that my sister makes Seven layer bars every Christmas and they are the best!

funny you post this, as I just made some holiday desserts last night. I made coconut balls, buckeyes (peanut butter balls), and mint cookies. They're all really easy to make. btw, I LOVE chocolate!! lol
coconut balls:
1 package of sweetened coconut flakes (I used Bakers)
1 tsp of vanilla extract
1 C of powdered sugar
5 oz of sweetened condensed milk
semi-sweet chocolate chips
stir together the vanilla, cond. milk, and powdered sugar until smooth. add coconut. scoop with a teaspoon, and shape into balls with wet hands. refrigerate for 15 min. melt choc. chips as you normally do. I have used microwave, and a double boiler. dip the coconut balls into chocolate, place on wax paper, and refrigerate until ready.

buckeyes (I made a small batch using this recipe. it makes about 30 or so small buckeyes):
1 stick marg. softened
1 C creamy peanut butter
1 1/2-2 C powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract.
semi-sweet choc. chips, or white choc chips
cream together the marg, peanut butter, and vanilla until smooth. gradually add powdered sugar. beat until smooth. using teaspoon, shape dough into balls, and refrigerate fof 15 min. melt choc as you normally do, and dip peanut butter balls 3/4 into chocolate as to not completely cover the peanut butter. place on wax paper, and refrigerate until ready.

my FAV...mint chocolate cookies (similar to girl scout thin mints)
semi-sweet choc chips
mint oil (found in the baking isle, or I found it in the craft section at Super Wal-Mart)
ritz round crackers
melt choc. chips, and add mint oil a little at a time...maybe 5 drops or so, depending on your taste. stir completely. dip crackers in mint-choc until completely covered. scrape some excess off using the side of the pot/bowl.
place on wax paper, and refrigerate until ready.

Happy holidays everyone!
