DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

I’m so sorry that the process causes such extreme anxiety for you and your daughter.

It is unfortunate that DAS became so prevalent that something had to change. It’s also unfortunate that no one has been able to figure out a better way to separate those who truly NEED DAS from those who can get by with other accommodations.

The good news though is that LLs work much better now, so if you are granted DAS or if you purchase it you should have a better experience than the 30+ minute waits that some were facing.
Thank you,yes I think it is all very unfortunate. I don’t really expect things to change, after all Disney are a business. I guess I was just coming here to share how I feel about the process with people who may understand.

it’s good to hear that LLs are working better now. That’s reassuring.

I’m so sorry this happened. It’s so unfair that you were approved in October but not now.
Are you allowed to apply again or appeal?

After many years being approved for the DAS and the GAC before that for my son in law, we were refused in 2024 after the change in rules.
The online interview was grueling and he was crying by the end (it was extraordinarily humiliating for him).
We ended up going on very few attractions that year even though I bought the paid fastpass whatever it’s called now.
But because the return window isn’t flexible it wasn’t that useful in his condition.

This year we’re not even bothering to apply.
We’ll spend more time at universal as their express pass is more user friendly. There are no set return times. You just walk up and go in.
So it works better.

In the past we’ve gone to WDW for 3 weeks (we come from overseas). And to universal for 2 days.
This year we’re doing 2 weeks at universal and 1 week at Disney
It is what it is.

I had 3 thoughts in this:
1. I sincerely hope that you can find something that works for your family. Some people love universal. Others struggle with the kind of rides that they have there and limited entertainment options (though I am so bad at doing the wand spells I can spend all day trying!).

2. When LLs did you try returning after your window ended? Aside from Tron given how many people want to ride it in the dark many people have reported success in using their LLs after their window expired, especially if a) they have proof that the LL existed - screenshots are your friends here - and b) they explain they they are former DAS users and they had disability-related delays.

3. With 3 weeks in Florida perhaps everyone would be happier to just slow the pace down? Now, I love guardians an irrational amount but after the third (or fifth) time I have ridden it in a week I don’t necessarily enjoy that incremental ride quite as much. So yes LLs are expensive, but you can still get in a few rides, have a nice meal, go for a swim, wander and enjoy the entertainment, and still have a great holiday! Or if you really want to replicate the anytime ease maybe spring for premier once or twice and then take everything else MUCH more leisurely.

I say that because when I look at how my kids prefer to tour Disney one is like “go go go” and the other is perfectly content to grab Starbucks and spend an hour in the grass in front of the castle.

Best of luck to you/family!
