I have been raising money for The American Stroke Association. I have raised my $3500 required and am training for the Disney Marathon. The ASA told us we would either be staying at the AKL or the Carribean Beach Resort. We all wanted the AKL. Well guess what - we got the CBR. I have never stayed at any Disney property so anything will be great, but is the CBR really nice? I never see anything posted on these boards about the CBR and would like some input.

We stayed at CBR for our first family vacation to Disney in 1998 and I thought it was wonderful. Maybe it was the pixie dust in my eyes but I didn't have any complaints. I did see a difference in the room size and amenities when we switched to the Beach Club but I thought CBR was just fine. The food court was nice, the grounds were lovely too! I think each section has its own private pool. We stayed in the Jamaica section and we were very close to a bus stop. The buses ran quite frequently. The room while not overly spacious was fine for the three of us.

We are DVC members now, but I would not hesitate to spend a few days at CBR and certainly if my choice was CBR or nothing, I'd definitely be happy with staying there. I am sure you will have a wonderful time - we did!

Only stayed at CBR once but it was very nice!

They also are currently refurbishing CBR so by the time you get to go -- it may be even nicer!

Don't worry, you'll have a nice time.;)

Well I've never stayed at AKL, but I have stayed at the CBR, infact, I stayed there for my very first WDW visit! It's a lovely resort. Each section has it's own quiet pool and I have fond memories of late evening swims on balmy September nights :) I also stayed in Jamaica and remember the nice walk across the bridge to OPR via Parrot Cay which is lovely early in the morning and also lit up late at night - watching and feeding the fish and turtles/terrapins/swimming tortoises or whatever they were, LOL.

It's a wonderful place and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again - you'll have a grand time :)

I really enjoyed both of my stays at CBR. We were in Trinidad South and Trinidad North each time. Even though both seem far away from OPR, it's really just a short walk. The pools were very nice and the rooms were not too small. I enjoyed the selection at the food court. The main pool bar was a good place to hang out at night. My favorite part were the hammocks. Nothing like taking a nice afternoon nap in a comfy hammock.
Transportation seemed really good as we didn't have to wait too long for any busses. Have a great time!

I've stayed at CBR twice (out of three stays at Disney) and loved it! Its got a really fun atmosphere... you can see the Epcot Globe from some of the islands at night (very nice!) and the beaches add a nice touch to each island too.

I really enjoyed the food court. The sit down restaurant was not very good, but they are remodeling the food court area and replacing the sit-down with a different restaurant. The “gift shops” are really cool… they are just as nice as many of the shops at Downtown Disney. The CM’s were very pleasant and always tried to make you feel at home.

I would; however, recommend trying to stay at one of the islands close to Old Port Royale (the food court, restaurant, shopping part of the resort). Last time we stayed at Trinidad South and it was a long walk to Old Port Royale. After walking all day around Disney World, we didn’t want to walk for 10 minutes just to fill our mugs with a soda. But if you stay at Martinique or Trinidad North, its not too bad.

I have seen many people that have stayed at several places in Disney World and love CBR the best. Like I said, its got a real fun atmosphere to it… but everyone has their own taste. My opinion is you will not be disappointed!

Hope this helps! Good luck! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
:)

Thaks guys! I'm feeling better already.

I have never stayed there, but we have some friends who stay at no other resort! They absolutely love it! Hope you have a wonderful time!!

My friend spent her honeymoon at the CBR and they LOVED it.

Plus they just built a brand new restaurant there!!

Yes, the CBR is really nice, and more convenient than AKL.

Plus, the rooms at CBR have been refurbed within the past 2 years, the rooms are just as large at those at AKL, the atmosphere is brighter, and you will be one of the 1st to take advantage of the new food court and restaurant.

The beaches are great, and if you are into running or long walks, it is very condusive to those ventures. The hammocks along the beach are a great place to rest when you are done.

There is a main pool, with a nice pool bar... plus some of the best quiet pools on property located at each of the villages.

I think you will enjoy CBR, so don't be disappointed. Go with an open mind, and enjoy!

First off -- CONGRATS for running and entering the marathon, besides rasing $$ for a worthy cause! :)

I haven't stayed at CBR, but I am sure you will like it.
DH will be at the marathon too. (3rd WDW marathon for him.) Now if he can just remain injury free, he should be all set! ;)

Don't be disappointed!!! Maybe because CBR was our first onsite visit with our then 8 yr dd, now 20!, it is our favorite. Rooms are larger than the other moderates, recently renovated, currently undergoing a food court renovation, lots of pools, path around the lake to warm up for the marathon, great bus service, close to MGM and Epcot, great theming. Wait....I have to go now and book another trip to CBR!!!!!

We stayed at CBR for our first on-site trip. We looked at the pictures in the travel agent's guidebook, and we were hooked. I think the tropical feel was a great, relaxing atmosphere for our first Disney hotel. From the moment we began our check-in there, we were having a great time.

We're staying here in December and we're really looking forward to it, it'll be the first moderate we've stayed at and from all the pictures I think it looks like a fantastic choice of resort......but then I'm biased ;)

The carribean beach resort is awesome in my opinion. Ive stayed there several times . The first time was about 7 years ago and to this day whenever I hear any type of carribean music, thats the first place I think of. Its definitely a resort where you need to like the island atmosphere. If thats not for you, you might not like it.
