Please let 2010 continue like this

"My life sucks right now" posts are a-ok.

"My life is wonderful" posts are not ok b/c it is rubbing it in the face of the "life sucks right now" crowd?

:confused::confused3

Yeah, I don't get it. There are so many threads whining and complaining about just about anything you can imagine (usually veiled as a rant or vent) it is nice to see at least someone wants to be positive about the year ahead.
There are things that all of us find annoying in the world but those things should pale in comparison to the things that make us happy. If they don't you are just too negative of a person for me.

I know I am psyched about all the possibilities the year holds. Now it is just up to me to make those possibilities realities.

I agree, on all counts! :thumbsup2

Apparently so!

In this horrible economy, I am SO thankful for my job. I love it, I have the greatest bosses in the world, it's a fun place to work, benefits are great, and I just got a 20% raise!!!!! Yes TWENTY percent. I'm in shock, but I can only hope it is a sign of good things to come for all! I'm looking for great things for everyone in 2010. :goodvibes

Well to be fair, quite a bit of the posting on THIS thread has been from people raining on the OP's parade, and being terribly rude and condescending.

So, if I am understanding this correctly,

me raining on OP's parade = rude and condescending
you raining on my parade and calling me rude and condescending = not rude and condescending

:confused3

Some of us are a bit wary of the OP - time will tell I guess if ToC is for real or not ;)

My thoughts exactly. This thread, taken within context of the other threads that ToC has posted, including a nearly identical thread just last week :lmao:, has some people questioning the motives.

Because some people just love to twist the knife. THAT'S why. Bully mentality....nothing more. And the anonymity of the internet makes it even easier and more appealing for those individuals to be snide, rude and condescending.

Seriously - you are doing exactly the same thing. Since when are differing opinions not allowed on this board? I haven't seen anybody be rude to the OP. Being rude, imo, means name calling, telling the OP to stop posting, and that sort of thing.

How about posting some threads about the wonderful, positive, upbeat things that are happening for other people? You know - people who have been down on their luck and have made positive improvements in their lives. That would certainly counteract all of this alleged negativity.

There's a thread that screams positivity...even says it's happy, but I don't see all of the positivity cheerleaders posting in support of that person's success. :confused3

I don't see the OP responding to these ideas at all. :confused3

No, instead it's a continuation of "look how great it is for ME."

Bluestars and Just4today, I think I love you. :cloud9:

Thanks. I get that a lot. ;)

Also, going onto someone's thread about their problems and posting that you have none and life is great is considered rude but doing the reverse is not.

There is nothing wrong with differing opinions but it is the inconsistency that is a problem. If someone goes to a thread about how someone lost their job and posts that they just got a great promotion it would be attacked. Yet if someone goes to a thread about how someone got a great promotion and posts that they just lost their job it is ok. It is the inconsistency that is troubling.

It is nice to see someone positive when there are so many "woe is me" threads out there.

I agree!! And for those who have trouble reading about the good things in peoples' lives (yes, including those that have to do with Swiss cows), perhaps you should stick to the "woe is me" threads. Seems you'd rather read about how crappy others' lives are. Threads about happiness and success seem to make some of you bitter and a bit catty. It's really not all that attractive.

It seems that the OP is simply putting some positive stuff out there in the midst of all of the bad stuff. As the OP has pointed out before, it's OK and acceptable for people to make posts about their financial struggles, but it's not OK to post about when things are going well? Sounds like a bit of a double standard...

To me it seems like bitterness and jealousy...But I could be wrong...

Maybe there should be two threads started every week: a life is good thread and a poor pitiful me thread. Personally, I'd post on both. ;)

:confused3

Yes. That would be correct.

There are posters on this thread, NOT offering a differing opinion (that would be about how 2010 has not been so great). Instead, those posters are attempting to discredit the OP and make fun of the OP. Rude and condescending.

On another "yay for 2010" bent...we should be making actual reservations for our October trip to WDW this week. SCORE!

You are wrong. The only reason people are giving the OP a hard time is because the OP has posted numerous controversial threads since joining the Dis only this month. She jumped right into the Community Board too.

This behavior makes people suspect that she's a troll. That's the issue.

Perhaps I've not read all of the previous threads. But the ones I have seen appear to be similar to this one. The OP making statements, and the rest of the Community Board jumping on her for "flaunting" the fact that she's happy and doing well. The only contoversy I've seen was started by other posters who simply didn't like what she had to say.
But as I said, it's entirely possible that I've missed some of the threads.

This is exactly where I am coming from. :flower3:

I'm no bully. I'm all for positivity. I am genuinely delighted to hear that good things are happening for people.

In fact, I'll add to the Glories of 2010... I'm having a BABY!!! Life doesn't get any better than that! :cloud9:

In six days we leave cold and dreary Michigan and get to spend an entire month in sunny Florida!! I am soooo excited about that! Sunshine! COLOR! Warmth!

I wish for much happiness and little victories for all DISers! :grouphug:

There will always be people who cannot believe that people are not reading each and every thread with an untempered fervor. People will mention things out of context from other threads they and their bully friends deem as "controversial" in an attempt to thwart a feel good thread. It makes no sense in the context of this feel good thread.

There will always also be people who are shocked that someone could be having such a good year when there is so much misery in the world. Frankly there is enough misery in the world and the news is filled with the negative. For me this is a good year so far and I know it could end at any time, but I don't dwell on that fact. I certainly don't feel guilty because I am having a good year or that others are having a bad year. Guilt implies that I am somehow responsible for another person's misery.

There was a thread started a couple of weeks ago to talk how good 2009 was for us, big difference about the goodness the past three weeks have been as an indication for the future.

I hope others are as successful as we have been.

:thumbsup2 This is it! When the search function returns, folks can decide for themselves if there's a pot-stirrer in our midst. I think the intent is to get us to argue with eachother - which seems to be working ...

Even if THIS particular post is a troll it doesn't change the fact that 90% of threads that are about positive cash flow, buying things, promotions, raises, etc are met with snarkiness and "don't you know how bad things are for others" posts.

So true, so true.

It is almost like saying to someone announcing a pregnancy or a child birth, "You are being insensitive to those who suffered from a M/C or are TTC and are unable!"

It's not hard to do. There is another thread where people are being criticized for helping people in Haiti. It appears that we can argue about anything. Heck, I saw a thread the other day where some poor lady in a small town with a husband that was always on the road was criticized because she wanted someone to talk to.

Oh yeah, her. She wanted a confidante who is cheating on his/her spouse - like she is -with no judgements attached. :rotfl:

Somebody's having a nice little laugh at home - or work - or wherever!!

Oh you conveniently left out WHAT she wanted to talk about! ;)
