Im looking into getting into the DVC craze. can someone please tell me some info about it? like how much it is (prob the cheapest) but how does it all work. ive tried searching on the disboards but its not working. can someone inlighten me?

DVC is a large topic to explain, but I'll try. When you buy a contract, you must buy at least 150 pts, which will run you about $13,000, and can be financed by Disney for up to 10 years. Every year you will get another 150 pts, and that is enough for a week(and sometimes longer) in a studio, which is an over-sized hotel room with a mini fridge and microwave. You can use your 150 pts any way you want, though. If you want to stay in larger accommodations, you can. If you want to stay 5 days or 10 days instead of 7, you can do that too. Disney is very easy. Basically, you can stay as long as you want in accommodations that are as big as you want, if you have enough points to "pay" for them.

Looks like the "best kept secret" is out! LOL!

I would like to suggest that you read the stickys at the top of the page and then ask questions you have after that. It's a pretty big topic.

I just didn't know we were in on a "craze." I've never been a part of a craze before. How exciting! :cheer2:

Good heavens, people, why all the nastiness? Do we routinely welcome new posters by pointing out their spelling typos and making catty remarks about their choice of words??? Get over yourselves, already...

Tinkerbell, DVC is Disney's version of a timeshare, although with some major differences. As diane said, the sticky posts at the top of the page are a good way to learn the basics, but ask any questions you'd like and someone will be along to answer.

Your initial purchase will get you an allotment of vacation points. You'll pay about $14,000 for 150 points, which is the minimum you must buy if you purchase directly from Disney. There is also a resale market - the sponsor of this board is a great source for resale contracts.

Once you've bought your contract and paid (or financed) your inital purchase price, you'll also pay maintenance fees - in the neighborhood of $4.00 per point each year. So a 150 point contract would cost you $600.00 a year, every year.

A studio room in the off season might cost as little as 8-10 points per night, while a 2 BR in a "high" season might be 50 or more. So you can see that how you spend your points (what size unit you reserve, what time of year you go, whether you stay over a weeknd or not) determines how much vacation you'll get. For example, my DD12 and I went to BCV over her spring break this year. It was in March, though, so not considered prime spring break season. I "spent" 134 points on a week (7 days) in a studio.

Again, there are lots of details - you'll learn them over time!!

I didn't think my answer was catty! I thought I was giving good advice to check the stickys at the top of the page so they could come back and ask specific questions.

diane - DVCLiz wasn't saying you were catty - it was one of the other commentators who chose to pick on the OP for spelling mistake instead of helping out. If you read the posts before yours you'll see what she was referring to. . . :)

In addition to Diane's suggestion, suggest you call both DVC & the TSS (for resale:banana: , great way to test out the waters).

Good luck, we're really not a crusty group!

 I only checked the last post, because I didn't think there were many on the thread.

Diane - I still love you!!!!!

Im sorry for my spelling mistake, it was a long day yesterday and I was tired when I wrote the post. I didn't mean to cause anyone to get upset with my question. With that said....

Thanks for everyone who explained DVC to me. Sounds great! Maybe I will look into renting some points to see how it is. Thanks again and sorry for any problems I caused. :confused3

No need for YOU to apologize! We all have typos anyway. I never worry much about them. You might want to do a lot of reading here to get a good clue to what goes on with DVC. There are actualy 4 DVC boards here Operations, Planning, Mouselaneous, and the Rent/trade board.

Goodness no - you didn't cause any trouble, so don't feel bad.

Some folks on this board have, er, 'interesting' senses of humor (mine, for example, is 'delightfully twisted :lmao: ) that other folks don't appreciate.

(To be honest, I appreciate good-hearted Internet spelling humor - even at my own expense. When I saw 'inlighten', I thought "well, if enlighten means to put light on someone, then inlighten must mean to put light in someone.... See? Delightfully twisted! :rotfl2: )

In any case, I'm glad that those wonderful posters above were able to help you; renting is indeed a good way to 'get your feet wet' about DVC.

Come back soon, and bee whell!

My own sense of humour is nothing less than bizarre.

I'm still tickled pink that I'm part of a craze. :Pinkbounc Since both our visits to DVC have been in 2nd storey accommodations I guess it's safe to say I didn't get in on the ground floor with this craze! :woohoo:

Good luck with your decision and visit often for the great info on these boards. There are alot of people willing to help on these boards and alot of humor to go with it :thumbsup2
