please I need all the advice I can get on the med. cruise

For those who have used taxis in Barcelona - would they be able to accommodate a family of four with 2 large suitcases and 4 carryons? Or should I go ahead and book private transportation? TIA

From what I saw at the airport taxi stand, there are larger taxis in the mix than can accommodate families of 4 with luggage, but you may have a bit of a wait for one.

There definitely are taxi vans at the airport. We stayed in Barcelona last year and were a group of 5 with not insubstantial luggage. Be prepared to pay a little more. Our hotel was also able to order a van for us to get to the port. Also, I always print out the address of my hotel to make sure that the driver knows where I'm talking about. I speak very little Spanish and that was helpful this round :)

If anyone is interested, I wrote a very detailed review of our Med cruise on the NCL Epic on the other cruise ship website with reviews as Midwest_Traveler. It's obviously not Disney but we did DIY excursions at every port and took trains/public transit in almost every city. I found such helpful information online that I tried to pay it forward and let others know what worked/didn't work for our group (3 adults, 2 teens).

What we found out several years ago (wow, 10 years ago - time flies) is that our taxi drivers didn't speak English, and our Spanish is not that great and I can't even make an attempt at Catalan!! So communication was a bit of an issue. Our hotel and the taxi stand at the airport helped get our driver pointed in the right direction.

The airport bus worked better. and now that we know how subway systems work (from "practice" in DC, London & Paris) I would do the subway to get to where I was going.

We saw a couple of families waiting for larger taxis at the port. It was a very organised system. We jumped this 'short queue' as there was just two of us. However we had 2 large suitcases and 2 carryons, we have not had a problem. If you kept one or two carryons with you the rest should fit in the boot/trunk of most taxis
