Please help: WL or FW cabins with kids and FTP??

So my aunt and I would like to take her kids (3 and 6) to WDW on the Fairytale pkg for a week in Sept. We had pretty much settled on WL - woods view with a balcony. We like the pool and proximity to MK but can't afford a monorail resort. So then I checked Fort Wilderness cabins and for $5 more per night we could have 2 beds + bunks and a kitchen. First, I'm not sure we'll love FW, but I know WL will be a great atmosphere. And, I remember seeing somewhere that cabins were excluded from the FTP. Does anyone know? Transportation is a big priority for us, esp. to MK. Also, getting the boys some sleep time in. So I'm torn. Please help us choose!
