Please help save Horses from Slaughter

I just wanted to ask, whomever is interested, to please contact their Congress Representative to support the bill to end horse slaughter in the US.

Those that are for the slaughter (for whatever reason) please move on and don't share your opinions here I am begging. My horse was a Premarin foal rescue from Canada 3 yrs ago (that's a different problem and I have provided a link for your interest in reading) The first link is for the initial plea to my fellow Dissers.

Wasn't the last US slaughter plant shut down in 2007?
ETA - Oh, I see...this is a 2009 bill to prohibit exporting, etc. of horses (for slaughter & human) consumption out of the country.

Here's a govtrack.us summary of the bill (introduced in January 2009, then referred to committee in March):
Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act of 2009 -
Amends the federal criminal code to impose a fine and/or prison term of up to three years for possessing, shipping, transporting, purchasing, selling, delivering, or receiving any horse, horse flesh, or carcass with the intent that it be used for human consumption. Reduces the prison term to one year if the offense involves less than five horses or less than 2,000 pounds of horse flesh or carcass and the offender has no prior conviction for this offense.

Thank you for the link. I hope others take time to educate themselves and get involved. As someone who used to foster horses for a local rescue I quickly became very aware of the horrors of the transportation and process at the plants. I don't know how some humans can be capable of such cruelty...

I really hope the animal lovers here help by asking senators and representative to support The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act

(H.R. 503/S. 727). It will ban the barbaric slaughter of American horses for human consumption, including the export of live horses across our borders for slaughter.

I think the best way is to call your reps and email them...thank you...I am praying the Dissers get involved, pass the word, etc.

I can't watch the video. I can't watch things like that. They bother me, too much. I have a vegan friend on my FB - I had to hide her. She had me crying at work too many times, with her links.
