we have never used the dining plan, but now i am reading about "free dining." could someone please explain to me in very simple terms how this works? and the cost? thanks for the help.

It's very simple. Disney is running a promotion right now that if you book a hotel room and buy park tickets for everyone in that room (doesn't matter how many days on ticket), you get the dining package included absolutely free.

You can easily go on Disney's website and price out a vacation for your family with the free dining depending on the hotel you're interested in and the number of days you want on your tickets.

The dining plan includes 1 counters ervice credit (most ppl use this for lunch), 1 table service credit (most ppl use this for a dinner), and 1 snack credit per person per night of your stay. So basically, you get 2 meals and 1 snack for every member of your party for every night of your stay.

thanks, Laceylace! another question. if i book this and then later upgrade, is this allowed? of course, i understand we would be paying the difference.

Don't understand what you mean by "upgrade" - do you mean upgrading your resort room or upgrading your dining plan to deluxe? You can do either as long as you do it more than 3 days from arrival (assuming, if the resort is what you wish to upgrade, there is availability at the new resort).

Your stay at WDW must start between August 16 and October 3, 2009. The general public free dining offer is not available for any other dates.

aaaahhhhhh........no, it would be an upgrade to the dining plan. if i read this correctly, anything after october 3 is NOT free dining. see why i'm so confused??!! LOL!!! i'm making this hard, huh?

disneyqueen, what are your expected travel dates? because if you plan to arrive by 10/3, the remainder of your stay (as long as you check in on or before 10/3) would include free dining...
check-ins after 10/3 or before 8/16, no such luck...
