Please help me with a location request for OKW

We're staying at OKW for the first time in December--2 families in 2 studios. My sister-in-law has Lupus and although she is not handicapped and doesn't want to be treated as such (nor do we want to take a handicapped room from someone who needs accessible options), it would sure help her out if we had a room that was centrally located to help minimize walking at such a big resort. Last time we stayed at POP and they put us in one of the furthest buildings from the bus stop--by the end of the day it was so hard for poor SIL to get back to the room.

I've been looking at the map, hoping to find something that seemed close to Hospitality House, a bus stop, and a pool (we will have our 3 young boys with us). I'm wondering if building 26 or 27 might fit the bill? It's so hard to even guess the true scale of the layout when you're just looking at a map.

In addition to having an 'easy' location, a quiet spot sure would be nice too. I'm not asking too much, am I? :rotfl: But seriously, any thoughts on an easy to access, restful location for SIL would be greatly appreciated!

Only stayed once at OKW, but DW requested being close to the registration desk and we ended up across the street which was great. Less than a block to the bus stop, the cafe, lounge, and pool. You may want to consider a first floor room... no evelators at OKW. Enjoy... it's a great laid back property and you can get a table service breakfast!!! (Seriously consider the banana bread french toast!!!)

As DVCconvert said, near Hospitality House is a booking category at OKW...it must be available at the time it is booked.

There are 5 bus stops and 4 pools spread throughout OKW, sop there are a lot of locations that fit those needs. If you want to go to the Hospitality area, you can hop on any bus, the last stop is Hospitality before the busses leave for the parks. To return to your condo, you canwalk across the bridge to the Peninsular Road bust stop, and again hop on any bus. :)

Please know that there are only 3 buildings (62, 63 and 64) with elevators at OKW, if your SIL has problems with stairs, be sure to request a ground floor unit for medical reasons, near bus stop and pool.

I also have mobility issues, 2 artificial hips and 2 artificial knees. Buildings 11-14 work best, they are across the parking lot from Hospitality House. I've also stayed in building 23 & 24. They are a little longer walk but doable. I always tell them my request for a first floor room is for medical reasons.

Yes, but just a reminder that Bldg 11 to 14 & 23 to 26 are part of the Near Hospitality booking category. If you are not booked into that category, it is highly, highly unlikely those buildings would be available to you.

Most buildings do not have elevators and you will be required to use the stairs to access second and third floor villas. If your guest cannot use the stairs, make sure you request a first floor villa.

Thanks everyone! See, this is why I need the boards! I did not know that rooms near HH were a different booking category. Is there any kind of list as to what is in that category and what is not? If anyone could point me in the direction of such a list, I'd appreciate it.

Now I'm looking at maybe building 48 or 53. They are off the beaten path but close to bus stop and relatively close to a pool. I have no idea if Disney will be able to accomodate me with such a specific building request, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to try, since I'm always polite when I do such things. ;)

Near HH is buildings 11 to 14 and 23 to 26.

Isn't that the truth. I booked the HH category for August and they didn't honor it. I ended up in building 16th and I booked HH category -- had the confirmation to prove it!

OP, good luck in your request. I was in building 62 once and that was a great location. An easy walk to HH, but yet nice and quiet too!

For mobility issues, there is really no reason to be near HH. Instead, your request should be either a first floor or elevator building unit for mobility issues. Instead of worrying about being near HH, just request to be near a bus stop. ALL buses stop at HH last on their way out of the resort, so you would need only walk as far as the bus stop. If you request 1st floor and near a bus stop for medical reasons, I think they will honor it.

Thanks again! Yes, I was planning on asking for 1st floor, that's a definite. Now that I have seen/understand the bus loop, I agree it is not necessary to be close to HH. I just want to be close to bus stop and pool, with bus stop being of the greatest importance. The only reason I wanted to request a few different building options is b/c last time at POP they didn't honor our request at all. But it seems like there are enough options and enough bus stops, hopefully they'll get us close to one.

Looking at the map I would suggest the following:

Hospitality house - 11 throuth 14

# 62 - just across the road from HH, and I believe this is one of the three that has elevators (62,63,64). Though she is not disbaled you can still request it for medical reasons.

# 56 would be good - close to the Southpoint stop and the pool is between 56 and 55. If you don't mind a little more walking 55 has a really good view of the canal.

# 23 would be good. Close to the Peninsular stop and just a short walk over the bridge to the HH.

Hope this helps. Decide which ones you want and then have them listed in your reservation in order of preference. The more information you can give them the better chance you will have of getting a location that meets your needs.

FYI, if you make your request simple, you will be more likely to get it. For your situation, I would make it simple by requesting only 1st floor and near bus stop for medical reasons.

We love Turtle Pond. My friend has mobility issues (one knee replacement 5 years ago and now both hips replaced.) We always ask for a first floor unit near the bus stop at Turtle Pond because of medical needs. The pool at Turtle Pond is lovely with a snack bar operated seasonally. And if you walk nothing is too far at all from HH. I like the Turtle Pond area because it is quiet and near the bus and pool. Turtle Pond buildings are in the 30s and
40s. OKW is great no matter where you stay.
