Please help me win a bet with my husband

I read (and heard it on the DCL 1hr special) that it was Mickey colors.... and Mickey isn't navy- he's black.
:)

Well, we may have to win a bet amongst ourselves first. I understand the hull is actually a very dark blue. Let me see if I can find that quote somewhere or if I heard it on the Travel Channel's coverage. :)

Disney States that the ship's colors are the same as Mickey Mouse. Then even need permission for the yellow life boats. So I would have to say Black since I never heard Mickey being blue :)

the hull if the DCL ships are dark navy blue. it almost looks black. if you ever get the chance to look at it up close and in person you will see it. i have also read it on many websites that the hull is navy blue.

Yep, here it is from Mickey's Cruise Guide:

The colors of the vessel, red, white, black and yellow are the colors of Mickey Mouse. (OK, the hull is really painted dark blue but you didn’t hear it here)

This is over on Deb Willis' site http://wdwig.com/cruise.htm so, I think you've won your bet. Its blue! :)

According to DISNEY MAGIC: THE LAUNCHING OF A DREAM by John Hemingway, Dr. Hartmut Esslinger refined the design of naval architect Njal Eide.

On page 31 Esslinger is quoted: "I recognized the traditional colors of classic ship hulls were black. I think that, for the future, black is too sinister, too depressing, especially on a Disney Ship. I selected a color that was 87 percent black, the rest blue."

This is why it sometimes looks blue and sometimes black--it depends on how the light hits it.

Midnight blue...just one shade from being totally black (per DCL officer).

We even called DCL and asked the CM, and she said black. I swear it is dark blue. My DH is now saying he is 87% right

I saw on the Travel Channel that it's a very dark blue. Naturally, I took a closer look on our next cruise and sure enough, you can tell that there's some blue to it.

HE IS 87% RIGHT AND YOU ARE 100% RIGHT SINCE NAVY BLUE IS BLUE AND BLACK.
SO, BOTH OF YOU ARE RIGHT :Pinkbounc :bounce:
NOW, HAVE A GREAT EVENING.

Thanks Jan! Can you tell we are both stubborn people!? I told him navy was made of both colors, but what do I know?

You are right. Navy blue is blue and black. Usually more blue than 13% but, so what.

Are you two both first-borns??

No matter--the dispute is over and solved. Everyone wins, now watch a good movie and enjoy the evening together.

We have the same feelings. DH says it should be black to really be the colors of Mickey, but I think it looks navy blue. It's beautiful not matter what color is actually is.

My husband had the same argument on our cruise. I was right! I knew this because I had read it somewhere, he didnt believe me. Oh well I know I was right!;)

This all started because my DD is making a replica of the ship for a project. We were looking for the dark blue paint, and, well... you know the rest.

Jan, we did go watch a movie, was our plan for the evening any way. We watched "The Making of DCL" Only kidding we really watched "Contact".:)
