My mama is 91 and has always had a bra with inserts. But mama has dementia and having to keep up with inserts is causing a problem. I want to find a washable, no wire, comfortable fully padded bra and I can't find one. They all are designed for inserts. Can someone please help? Thank you for the help!

My m-i-law uses suction cup(like) breasts on her chest with a regular bra. She only takes them off when she bathes. Maybe that would work? Or can you adhere the inserts to a bra- either sewing or glue?

Would somebody who does alterations be able to sew the inserts in to a bra? I’m specifically thinking someone who does wedding dress alterations, as they often deal with sewn-in cups for dresses.

That Jodee Permaform with both front and back hooks is exactly what you're probably looking for, but wow, is that ever pricey. $130 + shipping for one bra. Ouch.

As a more affordable alternative, Amazon carries a line of mastectomy bras from a vendor called SendYou. If you look through their products, you will find lightweight foam prostheses that are made to fit into their bras. Unlike a silicone form, you can take a needle and thread and attach the foam prosthesis to the bra and close up the pocket opening. (Pocket forms of any kind always need to be sewn to the bra itself if you want to leave them in for washing, otherwise they can rotate/bunch up inside the pocket and look VERY odd.) You don't want to use a machine to sew in forms, because it compresses them in odd spots; it really has to be done by hand so that the needle doesn't go all the way through.

Now, a foam form is not going to have weight like a silicone one, and that may bother her, but perhaps not; I guess it would depend on how much memory holds from before and after the mastectomy.

Wow, yes those are expensive. I'm so surprised I can't just find a thick padded bra for flat chested women. Something simple that would stand up to washing. She has used inserts for years, but with her age and memory issues, we want to simplify things. I just want a padded bra and I can't find one.

A friend of mine had a double mastectomy, did not have reconstruction and didn’t want inserts. She basically just wore a training bra. She was comfortable in her own skin and it worked for her.

My mom had a mastectomy, but not a double, so if not wearing her prosthetic, she’d be lopsided. However, she had many health issues and at home went braless as she just hated the prosthetic.

I wish you luck trying to find a solution.
