We have two active boys (ages 3 1/2 and 5 1/2) who love to climb. My DH is certain that they will climb overboard! I told him that the ship will be childproofed.

Please help me and describe the ship and railings, etc.
Thanks!
Amanda

You can order the DCL DVD,,, I thought it was great.. shows all decks and 360 degree tours of staterooms, restaurants, everything,,on the ship and then your DH will for sure want too go !If you want to ease his mind you can get a stateroom with a porthole , rather than a verandah. The verandah has plexiglass on the bottom part, so your children will be safe.. Here is the link too order... the DVD. Hope this helps.!http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/disneycruiseline/requestmedia/requestmediaindex?id=RequestMedia :earsgirl:

The ship was built for kids! Disney isn't stupid enough to face the legal liability of kids falling overboard.

The pool deck (9) had 5 or 6 foot high plexiglass walls which curve inward at the top. Unless you are Spiderman, you can't climb them. Deck 10 (where there is nothing for little kids!) has many high railings. Bottom line, the only way someone is going overboard is with a lot of intentional effort. TO the best of my knowlege, that has only happened once when a teenaged boy climbed overboard from the 4th (lifeboat) deck while the ship was in port. He was confined to his cabin for the rest of the cruise except when escorted by his father! And there's NO WAY that was accidental.

Every cruise they have 700 3-12 year olds on the ship. If the ship wasn't childproofed, don't you think they'd loose a few each trip?

We had a veranda room - which I was a little nervous about. The plexiglas is on the inside - no way to scale it. The door locks and the lock mechinsm is six feet up. They will even (so I hear) remove the veranda furniture if you ask - we just told our kids that if ANYBODY stood on the veranda furniture it would be gone, and no one stood.

Deck 9 - which is where kids are going to spend most of their outside time - is plexiglassed way up (I think its well over five or six feet - you walk under the plexiglass - it curves over your head). This is where the Mickey pool is. A small child doesn't have any reason to go to the other outside decks - unless you decide to bring them there - except during the lifeboat drill.

just got off with very active 4 year old boy I was soo worried but they do a great job we had over 850 kids on the boat this week and mine who can be a hand full nevber had a problem the kids are never taken any where on deck teh only place they go is to from lunch, kids club etc.. an they have a huge line with like 10 counselores watching trust me i was worried but the counselor actually held my little ones hand the whole time when they were in line just becuase.. did not bother me at all that my little one very active likes to go see...

I was also worried about this on my first cruise. Everyone is right-the only way for them to go overboard is if you pick them up over your head and throw them.(not a good picture but wanted to show how difficult it would be) Dont worry, Disney definately kept kids safety in mind when they built this ship!

This past summer on the Magic I noticed that they plexi glassed deck 4, so they can't climb up and over the railings there. Deck 4 may have had the plexi-glass in the past, and I just didn't notice.

Going overboard for the 10 and under set is just not an option (OK it could happen by climbing up on deck funiture, but where were the parents?). I know some 11 and ups who might give it a go - but they would have to work at it.
