I owned a small contract at OKW many years ago and sold it when I divorced over 10 years ago. I only used it to stay at AKV since I had it for such a short time.

I'm ready to buy a resale contract of about 100 points for mostly studios and occasionally a 1 bedroom with banking/borrowing.

The issue I am having is some of the resorts that I'd prefer to have the 11-month booking window have the contract expiration in 2042. I'll be 65 years old so part of me thinks it might be fine to let it expire at that point. I'd love Boardwalk due to the location and I also love Boulder Ridge for the Wilderness Lodge aspect.

Anyone who recently bought at a 2042 expiration have any thoughts to share? Being 46 years old and not a young family I feel like the outlook is a little different from someone in their 30's with young kids. I'll be 65 in 2042 so part of me wonders if having it expire at that age may actually work out fine.
My other thought is Copper Creek which I think I would like but I'd prefer the Boulder Ridge studios sleeping 5.

I'd say the only issue there is if you still want to go to WDW after 2042, you'll need something, somewhere. You can always sell if needed, but if it expires you'll need something else, that you'll wish you had paid for 20 years earlier. :)
I'm 53, & just bought a small BWV, but also BLT/AKV for the long haul. Maybe buy smaller now, & add on something with longer expiration later? (or both now)

If I were going for a 2042 resort, my personal choice would be Beach Club. Boardwalk is tough to get into as well but not as hard as Beach Club. You're more likely to 7 month into Boardwalk than BCV. On the other hand if you don't care for Beach Club at all and you just simply like the theming more at Boardwalk, you can make the argument for BW to be able to book the standard rooms although those are still hard at 11 months.

I personally wouldn't opt for BRV but that's more my own personal thing because we're bigger fans of Epcot.

We are in our mid 50s and just bought our first (resale) contracts. We love BW so that's the first one we got. We are ok with the exp date since we'd be in our early 70s, may not be done going to Disney at that point, but are okay with not having to worry about what to do with a long contract. Walking to 2 parks is a huge priority for us, so BWV price is worth it to us. Those points will be used solely there.
I was able to convince my husband that having some more points and different home resort would be good. So we are waiting for ROFR on 75pts at CCV. We like the feel of WL and think it will make a good stay for non park visits. We also really like SSR but there were no smaller contracts in our UY available. I wanted to go ahead and finalize our purchases so we could start using our points, so decided not to wait around. We plan to use our CCV points at other resorts. We thought hard about BRV too but the dues were higher there and we didn't want two 2042 resorts.
Deciding on the 2nd contract/resort was very difficult for me. Lots of deliberations but am happy with our choice. Good luck!

Diversify... I think that's a great choice!!

I vote that you buy where you want to stay and enjoy the heck out of until you turn 65.

We're roughly the same age and I just closed on BWV though I do own a mix of other resorts with a longer expiration including CCV.

I agree w/ the opinion to buy where you love - it's entirely too much money not to be excited and look forward to coming back home to your favorite resort.

Though if you end up deciding between CCV and BRV - unless you plan to routinely travel with 5 people in a studio - I would probably push you towards CCV as it would give you options post 2042. You can always try to use CCV points to stay at BRV when needed...

That is the secret: CCV and BRV are the best for "non-park visits". Especially in the late fall and Christmas time.

Those two places really transport a person to a different time and place.

We love BRV and CCV (maybe a bit more-so BRV)...but you cannot go wrong with either for the theming and that special holiday feeling.

sold it when I divorced over 10 years ago
Time to treat and spoil yourself with some subsidized Aulani points that you can use guilt free at WDW when the mood hits or can use to grab some of those cheap hotel rooms at 11 months out and just search for cheap flights for the next 11 months. At our age, our kids and better halves can pay for their own flights for when we want to do a 1/2BR 😎

65 in 2042 is not too old to go to WDW! In fact, you might want to go even more after retirement, and DVC is the best way to lower costs for onsite stays. You pay a lot of the cost now while you still are earning an income and pay only maintenance fees after retirement.

I'd shy away from 2042 resorts, even though you like them. Maybe consider AKV, whose resale price is similar to some 2042 resorts.

But also like many others, I believe that "buy where you want to stay" generally is the best approach when purchasing DVC.

This approach while true from a heart string perspective is in reality only applicable if you can plan out 7 to 11 months in advance and if not then just buy SAP and call it a day. We are fortunate enough to plan out well in advance so we definitely bought where we wanted to stay, Aulani and Copper Creek 😍
Also, I am 50 so don’t let that age worry you any…… forever Disney young 🥳

I am 51. I bought a three contracts in the last 4 months. I went through the same thoughts. This board helped me crystallize my thoughts into a sound strategy that worked for me. My wife is 38 and my son is 13. Disney in Orlando is our preferred spot for vacationing and we live within 5 hours drive of Orlando.

My wife didn't care about the expiration dates that were into the 2060's as a financial concern to her, but I had my heart set on Boardwalk primarily due to location but I did feel comforted with the thought that it would expire in my late 60's. Ultimately, what convinced me was the fact that I would have little to no re-sale value of a 2042 resort after the next 6 years or so.

We decided to go with a resort with both love in Poly for 100 points and then some SAP's from Saratoga(255 points). In all three cases we got great deals which also made it an easier decision to go that route vs Boardwalk.
