Please Help...IPOD Questions

I too, thought of a Nano for DH. I wasn't too crazy about how they were made, and it just made me nervous.

I have seen a few of my students with them (like maybe 2 nanos so far) and they do look fairly fragile.

Anyone else know about durability of the Nano? I wonder when they'll fix the screen scratching problem...

Thanks for all of the input so far! I think I will wait on the Nano for now. I'm considering getting a refurbished Mini from the Apple store. I can get 4 GB for $159 and 6 GB for $199. If I do this, am I screwed if something malfunctions/breaks on it? If I get an IPOD, should I get a refurbished one cheaper or pay for the new one? Also, do I want the click wheel or not?

Here are my comparison prices:
REFURBISHED
Mini 4GB $159
Mini 6GB $199
Shuffle 512MB $79
Shuffle 1GB $99
iPod w/ Click Wheel (40GB w/Dock) $299
iPod 20GB (NON Click Wheel) $229
iPod 40GB (NON Click Wheel $299

NEW
Nano 2GB $179
Nano 4GB $229
Shuffle 512MB $99
Shuffle 1GB $119
IPOD 20GB $269
IPOD 60GB $369

Do most of you add on the Apple Care Protection Plan as well?

Even after reading all of this thread I still don't know which I need to get. I want one that I can get a new radio for my car and play it there as well.

Once a song is on the IPod you can't delete it? Ever? Did I read that right?

just an FYI, Apple/IPOD is not the only MP3 player out there.

Creative has models that are compatable with each ipod at fractions of the price. My Creative is the big boy, I play it in my car, I play it when i run, I play it at the gym.

The only thing I can think of that the IPOD has that Creative doesnt- is itunes

You can delete it but not through the device itself. (Meaning there is not a delete key on the actual Ipod) You can delete the stuff off of Itunes and that list will "transfer" to the I pod. Does that make sense?

I got a newer radio for my car as well. This radio has a output jack. I got a belkin auto plug to work for my I pod. The plug on the belkin plug goes to the bottom of my Ipod. I set my radio to aux and the Ipod plays!

Sure you delete them. As many times as you want.

Actually, I believe there is a combo of buttons that you can press to format the hard drive. But you need to go to a site to get it, like www.ipodlounge.com

Apple doesn't tell you how.

Thanks!

Now can you help me decide which one I should get? :flower:

Where did you buy that one? Their website or elsewhere?

I have a small MP3 player but I want something I can take around with me and play in my car too. It will be great to get all my music in one place.

You statement is true, for sure. But iTunes is a main reason to get an iPod. Great music store, the software itself is great, and, most importantly, the songs you download are in the AAC format, which is a better compression scheme than mp3. And you can encose all your songs to AAC if you want.

The big downside to that is that AAC is not easily converted to mp3. But it can be done.

Buy the iPod mini!!! I have one and I love it. Sure it does not hold pictures or have the color screen to show the pictures but that is what a camera is for right? The iPod mini is only a little bit bigger and it holds about twice as many songs as the iPod nano and they are the same price . Plus the iPod mini comes in an assortment of vibrant colors. I'm pretty sure they still sell them at Costco.

P.S. It is btter when your using Itunes to just buy the gift cards from Best Buy, Target, Wal Mart, Ralphs and other places.

Any other place to get them besides Costco? We don't have that around here. Any thoughts on buying a refurbished Mini from Apple.com? Thanks!

I thought about a mini as well. I'm glad I have the photo though. I like the color and the fact that I can put photos on it. I have downloaded the album art of each artists album which comes up when the song is played.

I don't use all the photo options though. I do like the color.

Do you have BJ's? they have them there. Do you have an Apple store? I have bought all of our Ipods at our local Apple store because I can get my educator discount. Yes, I could have ordered online, but I like instant gratification.

Nope, no BJ's or Apple store either. We have electronics stores (Circuit City, Best Buy) and Sam's Club. Other than that, buying online is my only choice.

I have an I-trip for my 20G IPod. It cost $35 and it sticks into the hole on the top of your IPod. You tune your FM radio to 87.9 and ta-da...your IPod plays on your radio. I also have the Bose docking station for it to play my IPod at home and when we're having parties, etc. It has awesome sound.

My son has a 6G IPod Mini in blue...he loves it. I just got it for him in July and I can't believe they're getting discontinued. He would have loved the Nano...but I didn't know about them when I bought it.

No, I don't use the FM thing. I hated the way that sounded. All the music sounded terribly filtered. This cable is woderful. The white cable goes to teh aux port to my Ipod. I returned the I trip and went to use this cable contraption thing.
