Hey....I don't know who else to ask.

We originally used pampers and huggies and we just had problems w/ them. got LUVs and thought they were great, until recently and now I have a problem....

A side note...maybe I did something wrong too. Once DS (15mo) fit in sz 4s LUVs we just would buy DSs the same sz for convience. DS 31months is in the sz 5 and has been for a while and we put DS in sz 5 also just so we didn't have to bring 2 size diapers out/buy 2 boxes etc.

Well recently (about a month) DS 15mo was peeing through the diaper Like not out of the diaper but filling it soo much that it either bursted or seeped through. This only happens at nap/overnight.

So i was at BJ the other day and bought sz 6. (I actually was going to write you all and ask for suggestion of what to do when DS 15mo grows out of these (since they are the largest size and I am assuming he is FAR away from potty training, so if you'd like couuld you answer that one too LOL)

Anyway DS only has been napping for an hr and he has PEED THROUGH SZ 6 :scared1: :scared1:

What should I do!?!?! There should be anything wrong w/ his kidney you don't think right?!?!?

TIA!

hmm... i am no expert by any means.. just another mom.

is he having regular wet diapers the rest of the time during the day? i'm wondering if he is just kind of holding it in and then when he sleeps he sort of lets loose? dd had this problem at night - until we switched to the pampers cruisers w. ultra absorbency. dh accidentally bought the regular pampers cruisers at bj's last time he went (and of course opened the box and unpacked the diapers so they couldn't be returned) and we are having a lot of issues with leaking diapers once again. i can't wait to use these all up and get back to the ultra absorbency ones. don't know if that would help?

also - i've heard of some people double diapering at sleep times but i've never tried it. we also tried to cut back on her drinks at night right before bed. i feel really cruel but if we offer her juice she will suck down about 2 sippy cups worth right before sleep. we switched it to water - don't want her dehydrating if she is really truly thirsty - and she now takes a few sips and then is set. (it's also better for her teeth to not have juice right before bed.)

so those are my thoughts. i've heard of this problem more commonly in boys than girls so i doubt there is a kidney issue - especially if it is only happening during sleep times - but if you are concerned you should talk to your pedi. (be sure there is no trace of pink/red in the diaper which would be a red flag for a problem.)

good luck! wish i had better advice to offer.

Pampers Cruisers come in size 7. I had to start using those for my 2 yr old awhile back because he would leak at night in the 6's. He has never leaked in the size 7's. We can't go any higher than 7 so that's good! LOL But we are close to potty training anyway. :)

are you kidding me mom's advice is usually some of the best advice!!! And, forgive me for saying this.....but my kid is such a brat w/o any kind of liquid! :scared1: I guess I should just buckle down though and say deal LOL

Yes it is normal during day hrs.

No pink/red in diaper either

Thank you...
I was thinking about the doubling up.

Have you tried Huggies Overnites? My DS(27 mos) went through a similar problem. He was wearing Pampers Cruisers day and night, and was leaking every single night. I asked the moms here for advice also :thumbsup2 and many said to try Huggies Overnites. They are amazing. He hardly ever leaks now. The only thing that's tough for me is that very few stores in my area sell them in size 3.

My ds 11 months just started having this problem where he completely soaks through the diaper at night. Yesterday morning there was a HUGE puddle. A mom friend of mine said that's a sign that his bladder is maturing and he is holding it for a while and then letting it all go at once. She said this happens around a year with a lot of boys and the overnight diapers become necessary. I went to the store to buy them yesterday and they didn't have pampers overnights. DS always pees through any brand that is not pampers. So I decided to try the next size in pampers rather than huggies overnights. He had a little leak this morning but not as bad. Next time I go to BJ's I'll be buying the Pampers overnight ones.

BTW you can return open diapers to BJ's even if you have used some. We returned BJ's brand after using them for about a week because we thought they were giving him a rash (turns out it was prob the antibiotic he was on, but that's another story). Anyway you can return them.

My DS who is 15 months also leaked through at night. I tried the Huggies Overnights and NO leaks!!! They are great, but I too have a hard time finding them at stores. Redners Market is the only store in my area but Target sometimes has them.

If you can find them I would give them a try at night or for naps:)

DS was 18 months old when I figured out a different way to deal with nighttimes....

hat's a sign that his bladder is maturing and he is holding it for a while and then letting it all go at once. She said this happens around a year with a lot of boys and the overnight diapers become necessary.

Instead of that, we moved the "little potty" next to the family bed, and when DS started to squirm, instead of nursing him back to sleep like normal, I would swing him off the bed, pull down his dipe (we used cloth), hold his boy-bit down, and he would pee pee and pee some more. Swing him back up, pull diaper up, and he'd be asleep sometimes before he was even lying down.

And so began DS's venture into nighttime potty-learning. He was totally out of dipes a year later, only slowed down by his lazy ma.

Of course, none of that works if you don't have a family bed...we were extraordinary lucky (and happy!) to have the family bed so I could catch his squirmy about-to-pee cue!

Are the Luvs the white kind or do they have the blue pattern on them? I just bought a new case of Luvs and they are the white ones...they are terrible with their absorbancy!! My son who is 16 mos leaked completely thru them last night. :( I am going back to Huggies Overnights at night and Luvs during the day. Maybe you can try that?

I had the same problem with my son. I did two diapers at night. I also found these things called "diaper doublers" - kind of looked like a maxi pad that you slipped into the diaper to soak up the extra fluid. They were hard to find around me (I found online) so I stuck with 2 diapers and limited drinks before bed.

I thought it was just me, but the white Luvs aren't doing so well here either! I noticed the change right after we bought them but thought maybe it was just our kid. I'm so ready for him to be potty trained, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. He has shown NO interest so far and he's 25 months old.

I was going to suggest the diaper doublers too. I used them with my DS when he was little and needed extra absorbancy. I have bought the Huggies overnights for my DD and they do seem to hold more. I find them at Krogers in size 3. They are hard to find in size 3 around here too.

This is only a thought and it might be that I have misread your original post but could it be that you have him in diapers that are too big? You mention putting both children in the same size so as not to have to bring 2 sizes.
Although there is more absorbancy in the bigger sizes if they are too big this will cause them to leak.

I was wondering the same thing. If they aren't tight enough around his legs it's probably leaking out before the diaper has a chance to absorb everything. Before you go to the expense of buying bigger diapers see if you can try a smaller size for a day or two. The only reason I would go with the nighttime diapers is if it's so full the gel balls are bursting out every time you change the diaper after a nap.

I didnt read through all the posts. And someone may have said this, but here goes. It isnt the size of the diaper that needs changed, (as far as putting a bigger diaper on a smaller child) Its the type of diaper. I have always found tha Luvs leaked horribly. Try going back to huggies or pampers. I have used luvs and they are horrible for my DS. He fills them in no time. Now I can put a pamper on him and he is just fine with them. They hold a lot more liquid than luvs. Id just switch brands.

Our DS uses Pampers Cruisers Ultra Absorbent diapers for nighttime. I have only found them at BJ's (We don't belong to Sam's Club), but they are great for nights. He wears a size 4 in the regular Cruisers and wears the same size for the ultra diapers too. DS always leaked through Huggies and Luvs so we have bought Pampers since he was a few months old.:goodvibes

MY 2yr old ds has peed through his diapers since birth. He is just a huge pee'r at night. We do use the Huggies nighttime diapers but because they only go to size 5 and he really wears a 6, they are pretty snug and are part of the leaking problem.

I'm going to see if I can't hunt up some of the pampers diapers that the PP mentioned. Maybe those will help! LOL

But yeah some kids just pee a ton at night and leak through. At DS's worst we'd double diaper him. That's when he was in sz 3 and my other DS was in 5's so I'd wrap the 5's around the 3's and put plastic pants over the whole thing. I was at my wits end with him and while that did work well, it wasn't a long term solution.

try limiting liquids at night. That should help some.

Good luck and if you find the perfect diaper be sure to post back!

hm....I dont know if diaper size makes a difference...just putting in my experience...

Earlier this month...for 2-3 weeks straight my 11 month old was waking up SOAKED every morning... We change him right before bed and we weren't doing anything different, but his diaper was full of pee, his clothes and bed were soaked and we had/have no idea why.

He's not doing that now. Don't know what changed... Maybe growth spurts cause more frequent urination??

LOL...sorry no answer for you...just know you're not alone!!

Another vote for Huggies Overnights here! We have had to use them at night since our little girl was like 9 or 10 months old and rarely ever have a leak at night now. Granted, that thing is FULL in the morning!! HA!

i don't know where you live, but in CT I can find them at Target, WalMart (in a bigger size package) and Babies R Us. You can also order them online and surely find a place that has them and would have free shipping? Hopefully you can get them locally. I'm sure it will solve your problems! Good luck!
