Please Get a Diaper Genie...

ACK! I never even THOUGHT about someone throwing a cigarette butt down from above.

I admit, I've hung wet swimsuits out on our verandah a couple times when they wouldn't dry out in the bathrooms. I'd never put them where our neighbors or anyone else could see them, though--I've looped them through the frames on the backs of the chairs and left them for an hour or so. Didn't realize what I was doing was taboo. (And given the cigarette threat, I'm definitely reconsidering!)

To me, underwear hanging out where anyone can see it is another matter entirely!

OMG, that photo is priceless!!! That makes the Bodines next to us look downright tame.

Here is the "infamous" photo.

The thing that's baffling me the most is that they went ahead and paid the higher price for a balcony cabin but won't spring for the buck to use the dryer? :confused3 These aren't just bathing suits hung out to dry - were they washing out underwear in the sink? :confused3

Hanging things would get in the way of my am coffee and pm cocktail hour - what are those people thinking!!!!

Can I ask a really stupid question please? What's a diaper genie?

Here is the "infamous" photo. It was at DCL's first-ever stop in St Kitts, so there were all sorts of people from St Kitts out there to greet the ship and take photos. Dignitaries, media....you name it.
Not only is it against ship rules, but also pretty bad for Disney, if you ask me.

If it were me, I'd be much more peaved if my neighbor was peaking around the solid wall than if he were merely hanging up stuff on his veranda.

Inkkognito- The Princess fire was caused my unsafe cigarette handling, not clothes on a veranda. If they forbid smoking on the ship, that type of fire could never happen. It should also be noted that there is no evidence that I am aware of to suggest that the cigarette was 'flicked' to the veranda and not just left there smoldering, where it caused the plastic furniture to ignite.

A diaper genie is a diaper disposal system. It is basically a trash can with a liner that gets twisted after each diaper insertion, effectively sealing the stink in.

LOL - guess its been a few yrs since I actually used it (8 or so)

Yeah. We had "the best" diaper pail on the market for our first. By the time he was 18 months, we'd empty the pail but the essence would linger. With our second, we've passed on the pail. We'll pass on the genie on board, as well. But we promise that we won't leave any presents for anyone in the hallway.

If you look on down the railing, there are people simply looking off their verandah, and one lady taking a picture. The panels between the verandahs are NOT privacy panels. You can quite easily see into the one next door without having to "peek around". Which is how my friends and I saw the undies in the first place. We were looking in the same direction as the people on down the way.....and you can't help but see the next verandah.

I don't feel the least bit bad about taking and posting this picture. Anyone who has any objection to it must be guilty of something.

LOL! Yep, I can back you up on the fact that you can easily see what's on the verandah next door just by leaning on your rail to check out the scenery. It's probably even more noticable in a white wall verandah room because you have to stand up to see over the rail.

As for wet swimsuits, I wish Disney had the spinners like they have at health club pools. They're not a dryer, but they do a great job of getting the majority of the water out.

Oh, I would LOVE those! Even if they just had one or two up on Deck 9 or 10, they'd be worth running up from the room to use. The ones at my mom's pool spin suits close to dry in just a few seconds. It's hard to get anything dry by hanging it in the stateroom bathrooms--too humid most of the time.

Oh right, thanks, presumably we do have something like that here in the UK :thumbsup2

Yes there is a product like that over here in the UK - Tommee Tippee sell one over here. I got one for DD2 - so far it is working well!

If you look at the guy down the way in the picture leaning over the railing a bit to see what is down on the dock you will see that it is quite easy to see what is on the veranda next to you. If you are at the left corner of the verandah and look over the rail to see the dock or the water if out to sea you can't help but see what is on the verandah next to yours.

Princess wasn't clothes specifically but rather flammables in general on the verandah. Someone tossed a cigarette down that ignited something flammable on a verandah below. That is why all cruise lines, DCL included, have made changes like going to less flammable furniture and why the stateroom hosts often remove items left out on verandahs. The clothes next door didn't bother me so much as amuse me, but Princess was in the back of my mind, especially since the room was on the starboard (smoking) side. I sure don't want the Wonder to end up looking like this:

...I will admit that you have listed very very very valid points here that I also feel we should all take a cue from. 1) Yes, I do not want any Disney cruise ship looking like the above picture.
2) Yes, I too often wonder why smokers feel it is necessary to flick their cigerette buts wherever they feel. Whatever happened to the federal law of no ocean littering????
3) You also brought up an issue I haven't thought of......being next to people like that (who hang up their clothes on a clothes line) while on a cruise ship....EEEEWWWW:scared1:.
