Please explain Epcot to me like I'm 4yo

I need to learn about Epcot. The only Epcot I know is the one we stumbled upon on our last day of our trip. I hadn't planned to go to Epcot, but what was supposed to be a swimming day turned out to be too cold, so we went to Epcot. I was reluctant as I didn't do any research on it, so all we really did was walk around the World Showcase. Which was awesome, we had it timed perfectly so that every country we entered, the characters were coming out, so we saw them all.

Can you tell me what else there is to do there? Its me, DH, DD5, DS4 I just can't get a grasp on Epcot and I think were missing alot there.

My kids love Test Track (12 and 13). You MUST try SOARIN -- it is awesome!!! The kids will love Journey into Imagination and if it's open, The Living Seas is great for kids. Maelstrom in Norway is fun and Spaceship Earth is the large geosphere when you first walk in. Have fun!

Epcot - 2 halves in one park... original idea was Experimental Prototype Community Of Tommorrow (EPCOT)... Walt's grand idea of a self-contained community with residential areas, businesses, recreation, etc... what it turned into was the 2nd theme park at Walt Disney World...

Future World (Test Track Ride, Mission Space, Soarin (The Land), Living Seas, Energy, Innoventions, Spaceship Earth, Immagination 3-D)
Deals mainly with technology, future ideas, fun rides, dare I say educational...

World Showcase (the countries with their attractions, architecture, restaurants, movies, rides, and workers from those countries)
