Took son to Blockbuster last night. We ended up with 2 seven day rentals and 2 two day rentals. They said we can actually keep out the two day rentals for a week due to a grace period. After that we are charged for the DVD. (I have heard this before but this is our first time trying it).
IF we decide to keep the DVD will we then only be charged the $8 or so more (whatever it says on the slip)? Are there other hidden fees? Will a "surprise" show up on my credit card? Does Blockbuster loose alot of their DVDs because of this cheaper way of buying them?
Id like to have the details explained please - thank you

I kept two DVD's over the grace period, and was sent a bill for $34. I had totally forgotten about the movies. I found them returned them and talked to a manager. I didn't ask, but the manager took all charges off, and I started with a clean slate.

I don't fully understand the non-returns and charges, but if I remember I'll ask when we go get our weekend movies tonight or tomorrow.

Two of the movies you rented are due back Friday, the 21st by noon. However, Blockbuster no longer charges "late fees" and has a week's grace period. So, for them to charge you nothing, those movies need to be back by Friday the 28th at noon. If they are back any later than that,up to an entire month, you will be charged a $1.25 restocking fee per dvd.

However, if you decide you LOVE the dvd and need it for your collection, you may keep it for the additional charge listed on your receipt. (I did this with Serenity- the $3.99 I paid to rent it, plus the additional $8.00 equaled the $12.99 price they were selling their "previously viewed" copies for.)

If you signed up with a credit card, and the Blockbuster information is all current, they will charge your credit card. So, do return the dvds you don't want to keep.

Blockbuster doesn't lose anything, they sell off copies once the initial frenzy is over. Plus they pay, let's say $18.50 for one copy of Chronicles of Narnia, as an example. That one copy only has to be rented out to 5 customers before it starts generating money. In about a month or so, the demand for it will be less and they'll need the space on the shelves for Hoodwinked, so they'll mark down and try to sell off some of those CON dvds.
