Please Don't Hate Me - I Have a Mug ?

I've posted this else where but here it is again:
If you try to fill the mug at a resort that the mug was not purchased at it will deactivate the soda machine so you can't fill up and alert Disney security. I seen this happen at the CBR, a guest had a mug from the AS Sports and was going to fill up at CBR but when he tried to fill it nothing happened because of the tracking device on the bottom but he didn't know that. Within about 3 minuets while the guy was still trying to figure out why the machine wouldn't despense his soda 2 security guys came and confiscated his mug and the other mugs from his family of four. His wife and kids were sent back to their rooms at the all star under house arrest for the rest of the day and he was taken in handcuffs to Chef Mickeys where he had to wash dishes untill the Resturant closed that night, afterwards he was taken to the MK where he had to clean every restroom in the park using only a Mickey Mouse toothbrush, each restroom was inspected by Mary Poppins for her aproval before he could be finished, he had no memory of what happened after that but woke up the next morning at 9:30am proped up against his room at the AS Sports wearing a Peter Pan costume and bare feet. His family had all priority seating privileges taken away for the remainder of their stay and when it came time for check out they had to pay the hotel rate as if they had stayed in a tower suite at the GF. So remember, you an only fill up your mugs at the resort they were purchased at during the stay they were purchased.

Along the same thread: I've been to WDW a couple of times but never bought the mugs (big mistake). I'm curious, though. How do they tell if you've paid for a mug? Is there some wrapper that's removed that tells them it's paid for? My thinking is here I am on the second day, standing in line to pay for me food and I have the mug with me. How does the cashier know that I've already paid for the mug?

After being at the food court for 9 days at ASMo, I can personally tell you that NO EMPLOYEE is even gonna notice what you're filling up. It's so JAMMED pack with people, a person could fill up a cooler and nobody would notice.

If I stay at ASMo again, I'll be taking mine back. I saw way too many people filling up water bottles, and cups from the gas station down the road. Until the resorts get a better plan, this is what's gonna happen.

And I sure did enjoy the Fresca........don't find that much around here.

PDCHRIS,

That is the same thing I said last Thursday when I purchased mine. I went into the court, got a mug and checked it out, filled it up and sat down.

Then the next day I noticed all the mugs had yellow clips on them that the clerk had to cut off. According to most people on here, they've had the clips on the mugs for a long time---but not the day I was there.
That's how they can tell if it's new or a refill.

:rotfl2: I read this before and LMAO. When we bought mugs at Dixie Landings not only were we told to bring them back, we were also told we could use them at French Quarter. People take the entire mug controversy too seriously. If you were told to use them use them. If you're ethically opposed stay opposed. I've never witnessed a CM say anything to correct an illegal mug user.

That is nothing; last year at POP I witnessed an elderly gentleman trying to fill an ASM mug at the machine. All of a sudden Donald duck can out of nowhere, put the poor old man in a headlock and hauled him off to somewhere (probably the dungeon under the castle) :)

Please stick to your eyewitness accounts to what the OP requested. Thank you everyone.

And I did do a search first! Has anyone ever been denied use of their old mugs that they bought awhile back - before the disclaimer not to? Like has someone been called down in the food court for it? That would be kind of embarassing to be standing there with kids holding their mugs and the CM says "No".

You might want to bring them with you and ask a CM if it okay to use them.

Well said zdad. I usually just try to mind my own business and make sure I am doing the right thing. As long as it is not hurting me, I don't care what other people do. :flower:

The abuse causes prices to rise on the mugs. So it does affect you and everyone else.

Yes I have seen people asked to purchase a new mug by a Cast Member.

They got to see Mary Poppins! She's one of the characters at Cindy's B-fast! I can NEVER get reservations to that! It might be worth it if I could get my pic taken w/ her... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Just so I get this straight--If you bought mugs before the policy of use during stay only, then you may bring them back to use at the resort where they were orignally purchased? That actually sounds fair to me, and I apologize to the OP for assuming the worst.
Nothing like these DIS boards to get my underwear in a bundle! :flower:

The policy at Disney has always been length of stay only. However, CMs tell guests that they can use them forever. We bought our first set of mugs at the Polynesian in 1997 and were told then (plus read the signs by the mugs) that they were good only for the length of our stay at that resort. At some resorts it's easier to control the use of mugs than at others. I think the large food courts make it difficult to control who uses what for their beverages.

However, I am saving all my cups from McDonalds because it says free refills. I'll never had to buy the special again. Free soda forever.

In March I saw people filling Blizzard Beach mugs at POR. I have never seen a CM say anything to anyone for using something other than a resort mug to fill up at a food court. I also don't see how they can tell if you had brought one back from another visit that looks exactly the same.

I have seen people using other resort mugs at POP. Just saw this two weeks ago. I have a question tho that I have always wondered. What if you are staying at POP for example, buy the mug, but want to eat lunch at another resort, say ASMO, during the same trip, just to try out the food court. Can you use your POP mug as this is during the same stay? I always tried to give people the benefit of the doubt, and figured that this was what they were doing.

Ok, this WAS funny the first few times you posted it. It's old now LOL! To the OP, no I not only have never seen anyone told they couldn't, but I have seen several ask, and they were told to fill em up! And welcome back. (myself included..yep, I reuse mugs everywhere but at POP, where I bought them after the signage changed)

Today DD and caught a bite at McDonalds. 2 kids came in and asked if they could have some water. They were given perhaps 10 oz cups with the purple glob. They went over to the soda machine and took the sports drink (sneaky, because the water is attached to that particular jet).

So, anywhere there is unattended soda jets looms the possibility for abuse.

Unfortunately, no DRP4Video (I have asked the CM for a "courtesy" cup though on occasions like this and they have obliged).
The one time I came over from the WL to AS Music to have breakfast with in-laws I was stopped and scolded by a CM there because I was carrying a WL mug. I was told I could "not use my WL mug here". Little did this CM know, but we had already filled our mugs at the WL and were just there for food. I mentioned this in an earlier post.
I feel bad for people who may split their stays between 2 or even 3 resorts. We've done this on a couple of occasions. You have to buy a mug for each leg of your stay which I think is ridiculous. It should be one mug per stay (since they're not reusable anyway). I find having to buy several mugs for each resort during one stay insane and a horrible waste and burden on the environment. Disney is supposed to be so environmentally conscience, but this policy totally contradicts this imho. But as they say, the rules are the rules

I think bottom line, if you ask a CM at the foodcourt and they say yes, you are free and clear to reuuse your mug. If a CM comes up to you at a later time, say the next day. You can tell them, I asked permission and -CM Angie- said that it was allowed.

We will be staying at DVC property the majority of the time, but are staying at AK for 3 nights on one weeked and 2 nights a WL another weekend. I am planning on buying two mugs at each resort, because I like them so much and want to stay within the rules.

The only case where I say that is WRONG, is the time people have said they have bought their mugs from someone else, i.e. ebay. Disney has received no money from THAT FAMILY for the soda, and to me this is clearly "stealing". JMO

SORRY I DON'T AGREE WITH YOUR LOGIC.

The rules are clearly posted, free refills for the length of your current stay. Virtually all guests have already received enough free drinks during their original stay to pay for the mugs, probably several times over. The question is are you entitled to free soda for your future trips.

Current CM policy seems to be free drinks for all. I'm fine with that. Interesting the way some guests try to bend the rules so they're eligible for free soda but not others. How can Disney identify if it's the original purchaser that has the mug. How about a guest who says, I didn't bring my old mug because it was only good for my original stay. If I knew the rules weren't going to be enforced I would have brought my mug. Shouldn't they be entitled to free soda?

THAT FAMILY isn't any more, or any less, entitled to FREE SODA for their future trips than any other guest. If you consider it stealing in one case then it's stealing in the other.

Odd how passionate everyone gets over this - always turns into a debate. I wonder if WDW cares as much as people on these boards. :rolleyes2
