I canceled my trip. You can too. You have no idea who you might infect, how they will react to the same illness, or if your family will cause another family to go through a great tragedy. There is no amount of money lost that can justify that. Wouldn't you give everything you own to someone if you knew it meant your child (or loved one) wouldn't get sick??

Seriously, do the right thing. :flower3:

I want to agree with you...Does Disney have cancelation fees that would cost you a bunch of money if you cancel just a few days out? I'd want to cancel, but if I would do something like lose the cost of my airline tickets, then I'd probably be a bad parent and go anyway. I'd feel guilty about it and take as many precautions as possible, but we'd still go...I'm going to burn in Disney World he-l-l for saying that.

It's called travel insurance.

I feel like I jinx myself with it, but I've used travel insurance 3 out of 4 times now. I bought it for Disney, even with their cancellation policy, b/c if I cancel mid-week, I'll still be refunded for what I missed.

It's piece of mind.

I agree.. cancel. If for no other reason than the poor person who has to be dragged around while sick. If there is a fever present, that person is highly contagious.

I agree 100%. Didn't 100 children die of H1N1 last week? I'm not in a panic about this but it's not like this is a simple cold. Exposing others to the swine flu is so dangerous. As PP have said, this is what trip insurance is for.

bravo to the original poster and to those of you who are being considerate of others and staying away when you are sick!

But what if I KNOW I am not contagious??? MY family hass nasal allergies that often result in sinus congestion and or infections that are not contagious, although we sound like we have a cold. We get at least one episode every couple months between the 3 of us, and we are more likley to get them is a different environment like a hotel room in another state. I am NOT canceling my trip over one b/c they are routine for us and not a threat to anyone else. AM i going to get nasty looks for being "sick at disney" if one of us happens to be? Probably, but really people you cannot know what is wrong with someone just by hearing them cough or sneeze. I had a pretty good attack the last time we were in Disney, but was NOT contagious as it was only allegies.

no. 100 children have died in the US since the outbreak began. NOT all in one week. An yes, for 99% of people swine flu is like a simple coald with symptoms less sever than seasonal flu.

1000 people have died. 100 of those are children. I think those are decent odds when it comes to children. I certainly don't mean to sound callus, but it doesn't seem to be setting it's eyes out on kids.

Georgia announced today, to the criticism of many, that their h1n1 numbers are slowing down. I'm hoping that here, in the south, we're starting to see the tail end of this. *crosses fingers*

I just got back last night, and I did notice that there were a few people running around Disney World with what seemed to be more than a little cold. When you have a barking cough that sounds like you are hacking up your lungs, it at least sounds like you shouldn't be in the parks.

I have allergies myself, so I know that people can be coughing and sneezing and not be contagious. I do try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I did back away from some people who didn't sound well. And I used a ton of hand sanatizer too.

If you know you are sick, please stay home.

Here that HIV people? Chemo recipients? Don't come to Disney cause you're sick!

If my kids have the flu it typically passes in a couple days and I will be back at the Dis. As long as they are not throwing up. Sorry but I am not canceling a vacation because my kids "might" give it to someone else. All three are in school so our family is usually got some sort of illness from now until they get out next year.

The media freaks everyone out about getting sick and suddenly i have to lock myself up. Give me a break. Thousands die every year from the regular Flu. Stop being paranoid

There is a new item at the Disney gift shops this year for all you paranoid people. It is the Disney Bubble. Now you and your family can walk around in a fashionable plastic bubble all day without the worry of someone even breathing on you. On sale now.

What does "sick" mean? 24-hour bug? Sinus infection? Earache? Way too general and vague, IMHO.

BTW, Vegas oddsmakers have placed the over/under on number of pages in this thread at 8.5. Me, I'm taking the over.

It truly is gross.

My daughter coughed yesterday while we were waiting at the Minute Clinic to get our flu shots. Not a hacking cough, but a "ooh, I got a tickle in my throat" kind of cough, and I was so concerned that folks would think she was contagious when we're not even sick at all. No way would I ever let her hack up a lung in front of others when she is truly sick.

We had the flu at the end of September, and neither of us even stepped foot in the grocery store.

Some folks are more concerned about their dollar than their wellbeing or anyone else's. That's a shame. I'd be so embarrassed.

And this brings up a sour feeling from this board, from that lame woman who said that I was "horrible and selfish" because I wanted to rent a stroller for our Epcot night EMH to put our DD6 in with a blanket, pillow and her DS, while her dad and I strolled around and took in World Showcase for a few hours after dinner. Where the heck is that lady to call out the sickies who go to Disney? Yeah, I'm real horrible and selfish.

Sorry to go on that rant, but that whole thing still burns me up.

Around here a "croupy" sounding cough is lasting a MONTH. You aren't contagious for a month. If there is no fever, just like at school, I say go.

Now come on... you know that she was talking about the truly sick, not someone with an earache.

We had h1n1, and my daughter ran a fever of 104 for 5 days straight. This is a girl who never gets more than the sniffles once a year. She got rotavirus for the first time ever just last year, and she's six, and has been in school since she was 2. She is very healthy, but this flu tends to give kids a high fever and make them feel like crap overall. I've never seen her take to the couch when sick, but she hardly got off of it the entire week she had n1h1. was it awful? no. but the worst i've ever seen her.

During my trip a couple of weeks ago, I was in the line for TOT when I heard the teenage girl in front of me complain to her dad she wasn't feeling too well. His response was 'okay we'll go and pick you up some more tamiflu after we leave here.'
Three days later, I end up in bed for several days with many of the symptoms of H1N1.
Coincidence? Maybe. But still, it makes you think....

This h1n1 is less severe than the regular flu, yet no one submitted these kind of posts in the years before. So how about if your that scared of getting sick, you lock yourself in the house and not go to WDW! less people there for everyone else.

If I were on chemo or had HIV, I wouldn't go to Disney because my immune system would be too weak to fight off those who will bring their sick kids to the park.

A cough, I understand.. doesn't really mean anything. It just freaks folks out. However, the parent is usually the only one who knows when their kid is running a high fever. It's their responsibility.
