Please do NOT go to Disney World if you (or your children) are sick

Respectfully snipped.

But you could also apply your example to this thread. If someone worked that hard to save and save for their WDW trip, and finally got the time off (considering how hard it is for part timers to get vacation time), would it be fair for all of us to say, "Oh no, your child is coughing, sneezing, and they have H1N1 in their school, maybe you should cancel your trip."

This could be their only opportunity for a once in a lifetime trip. We just don't know EVERYONE's situation.

I think people are becoming far-fetched in their theories. I'm not going to cancel my trip b/c there are kids at my daughter's school with h1n1. come on, now.

I guess I'm the crazy one to think that if your kid is honest to goodness sick with the flu that you should not take them to the parks, or on airplanes if you can help it. Heck, at least keep them in the hotel room. Who wants to hang out anywhere when you're sick? Disney isn't that big of a motivator for me if I feel like dirt. A kid will, of course, WANT to go, but probably still not feel like it. I don't even like getting out from under the blanket to go use the bathroom when I'm sick like that.

For a severe, contageous, life threatening illness, I agree, stay home.

But for the common cold? No. Even a light seasonal flu I wouldn't be too concerned about.

I'm not yet convinced H1N1 is as bad as it's hyped-up to be. I'm don't believe in global warming yet either.... :)

global warming happens. that is how the last ice age thawed. The question is wether fossil fuels contribute an how much. One midsize volcanic eruption spews more greenhouse gasses than 5 years diving in all the cars currently on the road. Ther are over 100 every year. Food for thought.

The problem is that some people are absolutely unconcerned about the health and well being of others. I mean, what kind of parent would drag their child to an amusement park when they have the flu? Any kind of flu. Or any other of those nasty contagious things like pink eye or chicken pox? But some do.

Most parents know if it is just allergies, although I know I've been wrong before. But saying that there is no reason to respect others or to mock others for wanting to avoid a nasty bug, is rude. I've known 3 kids who have been hospitalized so far this year with the flu. I have never known that to happen before. I don't care if you spent your last penny, if you or yours are obviously ill stay home. It isn't my fault that you didn't buy trip insurance.

Here that HIV people? Chemo recipients? Don't come to Disney cause you're sick!

Chemo recipients?

How can they be dangerous to others?

I don't think anyone here suggests you stay home if you have a sniffle. If you are truly ill....you will know if you have the flu.....stay away, please. Just like the stomach virus that circulated through WDW last year....it's not fun being on vacation when you are sick and not fair to others if you are contageous and share.

Ok, if you become sick while at WDW...nothing you can do about it but stay in your room and recover. I have been there...but not a contageous illness. It's no fun to spend your vacation in the ER.

I was being silly, just like this topic. Chemo recipients can suffer from extreme nausea. Lord forbid a Dis'er see them have an accident in their precious WDW.

I don't care to see vomit, do you? Most people puking are not chemo patients, i'd guess, esp. at disney. I'd never have had my mom down there when she was in chemo. Because it would have been too hard to protect her weakened immune system.

I stepped off the universe of Energy ride into vomit once. It must have been the people in the aisle right down from us. They did not even let the staff know. Yuck.

A different trip, we were down with a one year old, and he and I came down with the bug within hours of one another. He started while we were in the COP and he was out with my husband due to fussiness. By the evening it was a terrible bug. We chose to stay in for an extra 24 so that no one else's vacation was ruined by it, too. Very sweetly, the mousekeeper brought him and his brother beanies and a signed Mickey photo. It helped. But it still stunk to miss out on some of our vacation. That was the last one for about 4 years due to circumstances.

Well I guess OP plan worked because they baited you all. Funny how they never responded past the OP.

:thumbsup2 SOME people are really rude like that though!! I can not understand why someone would say "oh my kids have a mild flu we are going anyway" that is AWFUL and selfish!! I do not care how much money you have spent on your vacation you DO NOT have the right to get all those others sick too! There are other familys that have spent a lot also and their child may not get the MILD version of the flu you are spreading!

I love all this talk about selfishness, when in fact, a vacation is a selfish act...

My point is proven..

lol, well, why don't you explain this. Are stating the op was trolling?

Call me thick headed for day if you like but your post has me baffled. Not the trolling part, I've seen that before, but my "proof."

Sorry I actually meant to edit that out I misread the post... But yeah, this was a good baiting thread.

Main Entry: self·ish
Pronunciation: \ˈsel-fish\
Function: adjective
Date: 1640
1 : concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one's own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others
2 : arising from concern with one's own welfare or advantage in disregard of others <a selfish act>

It is the disregard for others that defines selfish. My vacationing does not fit that description. My taking my child with vomiting and diarhea to an amusement park does. It disregards both the child and the other people in the park.

Your vacation doesn't benefit anyone but you and your own.
There's nothing to be gained by others from your vacationing.
Vacation is a self serving, pampering time.
You are doing it for your own self enjoyment, I don't get enjoyment from your vacation.
Hence a selfish act.

Everyone here is coughing because a cold was circulating prior to H1N1 (it's mainly just starting to 'go around' here). I was in Walmart yesterday and it was like a chorus of coughing. Coughing, I think is fine if it's not one of those harsh, wet coughs. Though I love people who look sick and are barking who shop at Walmart while waiting for their prescriptions! Full-blown flu symptoms? Stay home. As the OP said, it's inconsiderate. If your child wakes up while on vacation with it, stay in the hotel room and do not go to the parks. Let housekeeping know so they can sanitize well for the next guests. Now, I am okay with people going to the parks if they have something mild like a cold. There's no way I'd cancel my vacation for the common cold. I think you should apply the same logic you would to anything else. Is my child too sick for school? Hockey? A birthday party? Then they're too sick for Disney. Only a little sick, fine for school? I think you can do Disney. In our house too sick for school/activities means: high fever, lethargic, definite flu symptoms, "look sick" (you know when your kids "looks sick"-that whites as a sheet, classy, dark eye circles....), barfing or diarrhea (must not have barfing or diarrhea for 24 hours). To me, no kid should be at Disney with those symptoms, either.

H1N1 randomly picks out healthy children and has them fighting for their lives. 3 children/teens have died in our province since the weekend. I know people have spent a lot of money & that the kids are really excited but, really, it's worth potentially killing someone else's child for?

For those of us heading to WDW or DL during the pandemic (oh joy, me!) it's important to know that people are definitely going to take their families to the parks with H1N1 so you must take good precautions. This is the time for hand sanitizer and lots of washing, good hygiene, vitamins, etc and, if possible, getting vaccinated.

Lots and lots of pixie dust for us October-November-December trippers to stay healthy!!!

Did I miss the post where people said they would take their children while they were vomiting?

If my child has the flu, but is not vomiting, no temperature, I'm good to go.

In all fairness I did mention the fact that it's feasable for a chemo recipient to have an "accident" due to nausea.
