I'm a big heights wimp :scared: , yet I don't want to spend the whole time at DCA waiting for my family to go on the rides!

Could someone please describe what the Sun Wheel is like? Thanks!

Big ferris wheel. I didn't have any problem with the height aspect...my mistake was agreeing to go on the sliding gondolas, which slide and then swing back and forth after each slide. Definitely not for those who have issues with motion sickness. I would agree to go again, but would insist on the stationary gondolas. But, I really don't have height issues, especially when safely ensconced in a enclosed space.

Sure....

Well, you've seen the pics right? It's really high up there and I am terrified of heights too.

I have been on the swinging gondolas 3 times though, each time with my eyes closed, screaming, and yelling for no one to move or touch me. :rotfl2:

It is scary, but it's something I think everyone should try once. It's hard to describe. Just give it a try so you can say you did it. :thumbsup2

Love it. My only complaint would be that you don't get in enough swings when it slides to the other side. I wish it would swing more.

I agree with terrifying. I'm sure if you go on the stationary ones you'll be fine. I don't get motion sickness often, and this just made me sick. And it's scary!!

Scariest ride ever!!! I refuse to go on it again!!! My kids love it but than they are a little crazy :rotfl:

I went on the wheel assuming that the sliding gondolas would be trilling (I was looking forward to it being a little scary at least) but it wasn't in the least. The gondolas slid very smoothly, and was more relaxing than anything else (a bit dull) but the veiws were spectacular. But then again, I've always been fond of hights.

Swinging Gondolas = PURE EVIL!

Stationary Gondolas = Completely tolerable, but not necessarily worth a long wait.

It was all I could do to not break down in tears on this thing. That was 7 years ago and I still get sweaty palms just thinking about it.

Love almost every other ride at DL and DCA tho!!

Deceptive. It looks like a tame Ferris Wheel. Harmless and boring, right? So you innocently get on the sliding gondolas. :scared1: And for the next 20 minutes you are whiteknuckling it with lots of nervous laughter... And then you get off and say "Wow, that was a bit more than I was expecting!".

I don't like heights and did the stationary, I was not totally thrilled. I am happy I can say I did them but won't willingly go back.

But they are the only ride I won't do (besides the stinger cause thats just boring). I am fine with quick heights not the hang out forever looking at them heights.

The sliding gondolas do not look to be happening in my lifetime.

I'm not afraid of heights so that part didn't bother me. I would ride it again but ONLY in the stationary gondolas. Those swinging ones really didn't agree with me and I will NEVER ride them again.

If memory serves me right, the wheel completes 2 revolutions with many stops for people to get on and off. The gondolas are totally enclosed but it is a "cage" type enclosure rather than solid. There are 2 seats facing the center that can each seat about 2-3 adults. I believe there are doors on both sides of the gondolas (one for entry, other for exit). The day we rode it, the line was short but it took forever to move.

Wow. I guess that I'll be skipping this ride! Yikes... although the rest of my family would love it. I never thought about the motion sickness thing, either. It will be a great time for my sister & I to do some shopping. :goodvibes

Thanks for your input!

I don't know, I think you should try it - in the non sliding gondolas of course!
I would never try the sliding ones- they look scary, plus motion sickness!

It is really big and I was a little nervous about the height, just don't look down, but I am really glad that we went. You only go around once I believe - the loading takes a while of course - most of the time is being spent loading and unloading.
You could see really far!! And we went on as the fireworks were happening over at Disneyland and that was super cool, to watch them from the ferris wheel!

For some reason I absolutely hate and am terrified of ferris wheels, how I ever let me family talk me into going on this one is beyond me, and to boot we were on the swinging gondolas. I tried laughing to keep from scaring my kids but by the end of the ride I was nearly sick with fear and was crying. I blamed it on the hysterical laughter but ??? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Never again!

I agree with kellymum does not swing enough, great ride though never laughed so much in my life.
