Please cover your butt!

IMO, it doesn't matter how much weight someone has lost or how thin/fit they were to begin with, not everyone wants to see that.

There are a lot of things I don't want to see. Tattoos. Earrings on men. Long hair on men. Anyone over 250 pounds. Old people. Ugly people. People who wear yellow - which makes EVERYONE sallow. (In case you can't tell, I'm kidding - about some things).

Only men who look like Tatum Channing (and myself) shall be permitted on a DCL cruise ship from now on. And all the Tatum clones need to be shirtless at all times - definately dropping those dining room rules.

There is a globe worth of standards - from nude beaches and family clothing optional swimming pools in Europe to burkas in the Middle East. And not everyone who cruises has the same standards.

Me - I wear a full piece suit and a swim coverup - with the coverup or shorts on most of the time I'm not in the water. But I only get to control what other people see of me, not really how much I see of other people - as long as they are legal.

I totally agree! I dont care if you are a supermodel , put some d@mn clothes on! It is one thing to wear a skimpy outfit but a whole other issue to have your private parts out for everyone to see!

And, I am all for different family values, and I do not judge alot of things because it is their life not mine, but when I have to be on vacation and my little kids need to look at someone's private parts because they feel they have a "right" to is insane....Just because you CAN do something does not mean you SHOULD do something!

And while Disney is not a "family" cruise only, if you want to wear stuff like that at least have the decency to wear it at the adult pool, because the family pool is not the time or place for that.

And they were not young, firm or good looking!

So if they were young, firm, and good looking then it's OK?

To me, it's either OK or not OK.

Alas, we don't all have the same opinions. And we're not all from the same culture. And not everyone thinks that "cheeks" are horrifyingly inappropriate to see.

And please wear shoes (unless you are in or near a pool) Just think of the little children who can't help but put their fingers in their mouths after touching something your icky feet have been on after you've been to the bathroom in bare feet :(

Kudos to you both! I've lost 50 pounds over the last year. I'd love to get rid of about 10 more, but am working on toning muscle right now. I am planning on wearing a bikini on our May trip! No floss, but at age 40 and after 2 babies, it'll be the first time in 15 years. :cool1:

Good job! :thumbsup2

See if I were you I'd flaunt it! Show it off!

:thanks: I like tan lines.

:thumbsup2 Great point. Your posts are very lucid. I don't mind people wearing revealing swim suits, if they're comfortable, then it's all good. Good times with good people are what matters.

Personally, I think that there is rather a difference between buttocks on full view, vs. something like exposing a too-flabby belly. One is an issue of modesty standards, the other is more an issue of decency standards.

While I know that there are different standards in different parts of the world, my feeling has always been that in resort situations that attract people from all over the world, it is proper to err on the side of the most modest standard likely to apply in the country of the largest majority of guests.

With the Disney name on it, the culture associated with this cruise line is American, and by the most common prevailing American standards, thong swimsuits are deemed too revealing for public places, regardless of the state of one's physique.

I'm not sure that I would want to go so far as to totally ban them altogether, but I think that it would be best for PR reasons if they were discouraged. (That way, if people still wear them, DCL can say that they tried.)

All those pounds ya'll lost - I found them. Please reclaim as soon as possible. pixiedust:

I'm not sure how this is improved by shoes. Presumably they're just as icky on the bottom after you've been to the bathroom.

Personally, I wear shoes because I don't want bathroom ick (or little child mouth ick) on my bare feet. If I hadn't been a shoe-wearer before, taking pathogenic microbiology in college would have converted me.

Exactly. In many places it's common practice for children under the age of 6 to be topless or completely nude at the beach. For me personally I wear a swim tank and shorts on the beach. If you want to roll around naked in the sand go for it. Personally I don't want to spend that much time picking sand out of places in the shower later. We are rather uptight as a nation when it comes to body parts. I wonder if folks from other nations go home and laugh at us Americans covered head to toe at the beach? Personally I'd enjoy living in an area where breasts weren't so shocking. Of course that would eliminate the breastfeeding arguments. What fun would there be if we couldn't all argue over that?

Why are so many people laughing at how other people look and how they are dressed is my question. Yes my 8 year old might giggle at someone wearing butt floss. I'm probably not going to because I'm not 8. My main thought would be how uncomfortable I'd be in that and more power to you. Then I'd turn away and look at something else. I do fully admit butt hair waving in the wind would have amused me for awhile, I might not be 8, but I can be about 12. The same way we as Americans are shocked and thrown for a loop when we see topless women and pretty much naked folk at the beach, I would imagine people who come from areas where this is the norm are equally shocked by how much we cover up. It wouldn't occur to us to show up naked on a beach in areas where it's common, and more than likely it doesn't occur to them to put more on. Personally I take things like that as a chance to explain differences in culture to my child and explain to her why it's not appropriate per our family values to laugh and mock people for how they look or what they are wearing. I also take that as a time to teach her how to giggle silently to herself because sometimes (butt hair guy) things are amusing, but not always something you should openly share with others.

ITA! Good Points! :)

Yes. Foot fungus. Ick.

I might be in the minority but I don't care how good it looks please keep it covered! It's just common respect especially on a family cruise, I don't have kids but if I did I don't want them to see your butt thanks.

We had one lady on the dream wearing floss! it was a huge rear end! I mean huge! Plus she was very short...it was quite unbelievable. :scared1:

I just don't need to see your va JAy jay!

:rotfl2: I almost choked to death on my coffee when I read that comment!! Still giggling.

I don't feel very strongly either way. My DH and I have seen people sun bathing nude in Europe, been to nude beaches in Hawaii and seen lots of topless women at the beach on our other travels. When my kids got older and noticed the topless women on the beach I just explained to them that we were in another country and that is how people dress on the beach in that country. They have seen men and women in thongs, sure they giggle, they are kids, but it isn't something that I think "scars" them for life where DCL should ban thongs. What next, they ban fat people from wearing bikinis or speedos or deem that your belly is just too flabby for that tankini or bikini? I don't enjoy looking at some people in their swim suits but they should be allowed to wear what style swimsuit they want. If you are brave enough to wear a thong then you probably do not care that someone is staring or giggling about the sight of your bum.

I am a nurse so I have seen it all at every age so nudity doesn't phase me although seeing butt man's butthair blowing in the breeze, I'm sure I would pointed it out to DH while I was ROFL!

You know, it's comments like these that really undermine the whole modesty argument. I agree with the poster that it's either ok or it's not. When you make an argument about skimpy clothes and then really drive it home by mentioning how fat, flabby, or huge the body was, it really just makes you sound fat phobic and like your problem was with the body not the clothes. It's either about fat bodies or too little clothes regardless.

Personally, I think that there is rather a difference between buttocks on full view, vs. something like exposing a too-flabby belly. One is an issue of modesty standards, the other is more an issue of decency standards.

At least this person was honest about their feelings. Apparently showing your cheeks is immodest but if you show what this person deems to be a "too-flabby belly" well then that's just indecent *roll eyes*

I'm a covered head to toe person because I'm locked in an epic battle against the sun so I don't fall into your categories here. But it sounds a bit unnecessary to point out the size of the body if it's really about the fact that cheeks are showing.

Luckily the sun is not my friend and so I don't have to worry about being too flabby for my swim suits. I cover up. I have two young girls. I only let them wear one piece or a tankini type two piece. I was once on a Disney bus heading to the water parks and watched a man ogle a girl wearing a bikini. She could not have been more than 10. I almost vomited on the spot. More horrified as we exited Blizzard Beach and I saw he had his own daughter with him. Maybe I watch too much Law & Order SVU but there are creeps out there and I prefer to keep my kids covered up. It helps my cause that mommy covers up too and we discuss what is appropriate to wear in public.

That being said I try really hard to not judge others and what they are wearing. We discuss different cultures and different standards for different families - they are stuck with ours.

Yes. Foot fungus. Ick.

Oh, no. I knew about foot fungus before path-micro.

Path-micro was hookworms that wiggle in through your feet. And guinea worms that come out through your feet. And... yeah.

It was a fun class, though!

frankly I dont care what one wears but I have a VERY observant DS9 who will look at you, point at your butt hiding a little string of floss, say something and screw up his face. Heck, can one blame him?! If you're OK walking around a ship full of children looking like that, then have at it.. But do not get offended when you hear a child say something about you
