Please clarify when points can be transferred

It is my understanding that only current year points can be transferred to another DVC member(no banked or borrowed). I've been looking at the rent/trade board lately and a couple posts have confused me. For example, one person has October 05 points that are offered for transfer. Wouldn't he have to wait until 10-1-05 before he could actually transfer these points to another DVC member?

I just had someone transfer some Boardwalk 2005 points to me a few weeks ago into my 2005 use year. I used them to make a September 2005 reservation with no problems.

You can only transfer "current" points but that term does not necessarily mean today's points but instead means "current" in relation to the use year from which the transfer occurs. They will allow you to transfer any "next" use year's points in relation to the date you are doing the transfer. As a practicable matter, that is the necessary method of doing it so the recipient can take full advantage of the 11 month booking window.
