Please clarify the pop/bottled water issue

Can someone PLEASE explain this to me? I heard/ read there is a card to purchase for the week, then was told there are only refillable mugs-----and it does not include bottled water.
Thanks.

The refillable mug program is for soda only. You purchase a mug (cost is $5 per night of the cruise, so on a 7-night cruise it's $35) and can use it for unlimited soda refills at all bars on the ship and in Castaway Cay.

Bottled water is not part of the program, it is only for soda.

Ok, thanks.......that takes care of the pop issue, since I can just see these guys leaving their mugs wherever they are.

The dilemna will be with the bottled water. One of my sons ( the most athletic one) has a problem with becoming quickly dehydrated, drops his blood pressure and has come very close to just passing out----so we are used to having a LOT of water.

Since some people buy alcohol in Key West, I can just see me buying a few cases of bottled water and getting it back to the ship. :) ( I guess you'll know which one I am) lol

Any other suggestions are appreciated but I KNOW we will have to take more than several bottles of water to every beach.

Thanks.

Mountain Mama,

You may also want to consider having just a few bottles that can be refilled with water at the deck 9 drink station. This would save the hassle of transporting all that bottled water. If your son doesn't like the water on the ship for some reason (most people agree that it's very good!), then you still have the option of picking up the water in Key West.

Good luck!
Julie

We bought 2 Brita personal water bottles before we spent 9 nights at the Wilderness Lodge last October. It came with me when I cruised on NCL last Dec. And they will both come with us when we leave for our cruise in 37days!! (can replace the filters)

I read in my cruise documents (I just got them today!) that there is a kid's soda program, for 12yo and under. They put a sticker on their "key to the world" card. The cost is $16 for 4 night and $12 on 3 night. At Castaway Cay they are able to get cans, because there are no fountain sodas.

Actually, that is outdated information in the cruise docs. The Refillable mug program is for any cruiser now, not just children. There is no more sticker on the room key, either.

The cost is $5 per day for the entire length of cruise. So the 3 day cruise would be $15, 4 day is $20 and 7 day is $35 irregardless of which day you purchase it on board.

The mugs are refilled on Castaway Cay at the bars there. The waitstaff who roam the beaches can also take the mugs there for you, to be refilled. They do not supply cans of soda.

DCL has to revise the old info as we can see, on the Soda Mug Program.

We just returned from the 4 night cruise/3 day land last Sunday. What an awesome trip!!! The drinks work like this:

When you board the ship and they usher you to the dining rooms for lunch, there are stations set up with hundreds of these mugs. They are sold for $20 (on the 4 niter) plus an extra $2 if you buy one with a lanyard strap attached. The strap is pretty much useless unless your cup is empty because the sipper hole does not close. The cups come in 3 different colors - red, blue and yellow. You can fill these cups unlimited times from places all over the ship with soft drinks, lemonade, fruit punch, unsweetened iced tea, water, hot tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

The place where we filled our mugs was at the beverage station on Deck 9 near the Mickey Pool. That beverage station also has paper cups with covers. Every drink at that station is free all the time -- and it has all of the above drinks minus the soft drinks. So, we used our $20 drink mugs to drink free lemonade and free iced tea. Plus, we had to carry the darn things around and clean them.

If we were to do it again, we would not purchase the mugs, because the weather was so hot that the soda (carbonation) was not the best thing for us to drink. The lemonade and punch was great for the kids, and we drank quite a bit of the iced tea.

On occasion, we would have soda with our meals -- as soft drinks are included with meals, along with all of the other drinks.

Ironically, we continued our vacation at the Wilderness Lodge, where we purchased 2 of their $11 mugs. It was well worth the money there to do that -- and the covers were sealable, so there was minimal dripping when we carried them around.

Drinking water on cruise ships is produced on the ship from sea water and is the purest & cleanest water available anywhere so unless you are particular to one brand of bottled water, you can't get any cleaner than what is already there for you!
You can also buy one of the lanyards - they will fit around the neck of a bottle to make it easier to carry.

Oh God, I don't think that is silly at all! I am a dietcoke-a-holic and do not like Pepsi at all. I hope they have diet Coke; it never occured to me!

Coca-cola. Your luggage will be searched and all Pepsico products will be confiscated (just kidding about the last part... but, no there's no Pepsi onboard).

I have to agree with everyone else. My family and I are real
"coke-a-holics". However, we purchased the $35 mug fo a soda and found that, first of all, you have to carry that darn soda mug with you everywhere! Second of all, the sodas on the ship are VERY watered down.....they are normal and great at Preludes bar on Deck 3 and on Castaway Cay.. but are really watered down everywhere else. We found that we spent much more time at the FREE drink station on Deck 9, which included very good water (we are bottled water drinkers) and lemonade. Next time, we will bring our own 12 pack of coke, and utilize the FREE drink station on deck 9.

Is it true that you can get a mixed drink in your refill mug for $2.99. [they are just charging for the liquor in your free soda].
In that case, the mugs might be a good idea. But I don't think I could drink $35 worth of soda in a week!

 Arlenerose: I had read on these boards that that was offered but when we asked on board, they had no idea what we were talking about and we were not able to get mixed drinks in our mugs.

I believe that I read you can get "shots" added to your soda mug for 2.99, NOT mixed drinks.

We leave next week, so I guess I will find out then............

Kimber79....that is what we tried to do. We wanted a shot of rum in a mug of coke. They said they couldn't do that.....for any price, let alone $2.99. We were on the 4 day. Do you think it might be different on the 7 day? I know I read about folks having done this but it didn't work for us.

Hi Sonya,

I am not sure, as we sail out on the Wonder on Halloween for our 1st ever cruise! :p I have found a "wealth of information" on these boards, and know I had read this also. I will be sure to let everyone know what I find out.

We are hittin' the beach for a week after our cruise just a little North of you. We are going to Anna Maria Island.

Aahhh, vacation..............is there anything better!!?
