Ok, how about the pleasant surprises that you encountered eating at WDW.

This last trip 10/21-11/5

Pecos Bill - We usually avoid this place like the plague because it seems so busy and just a hamburger place, but we tried it (first time in probably 10 years) and it was great. I loved my taco salad and would definately go back!

French Patisserie - I love the food here, the tartine and the sandwich are soooooo good! I know most people go for the dessert, but don't over look the sandwiches, they are my favorite! (and resonably priced)

Rose and Crown - That is the best potato and leek soup I have ever had in my life! We loved everything we had here and this was on our "skip" list before. We tried it again to watch the fireworks and everyone agreed that it was the best meal of the trip!

Port Orleans food court - One word...muffaletta.

Dole Whip Floats - Completely lived up to expectations

Victoria & Albert's - Started off as "just this once" ended up "every time we can afford it"

Jiko - Menu turned me off - Must do every trip

Crystal Palace for character dinner. Might be because we were all starving but that was the best buffet I've ever had at Disney.

Cape May Cafe Clambake.

I was so not looking forward to eating here because I am not a fan of clams or mussels. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how many other things they offered. The salad bar was huge and I could have stuffed myself just on that. I enjoyed the soups and other hot dishes as well. I would definitely go back to try it again.

Jiko & FF....who knew that DH would love signature restaurants??

I think Boma and Jiko- DH really wanted to try these two places and I just wasn't sure I would like them. LOVED THEM. and we have eaten at both a few times now.

The muffalatta at POR food court and magic cookie bar.

Coral Reef's blackened catfish and the chocolate wave, yum!

The food at Boma's, it was different and good.

V&A-we ate there before we knew it's rating. We try to eat our last meal here every trip now.

Jiko-The chantarelle soup with pumpkin seeds is the best course at any WDW restaurant.

BOMA-We hate buffets but I love this place (husband is okay with it but doesn't love it the way I do).

I think this thread is getting lonely - 3 pages of worst experiences and just 8 posts of happy experiences. Bring on your good stories :goodvibes

For me, I go to Disney expecting to love everything. I don't expect perfection, that's not life, but I go expecting to have a great time. And guess what? We always do. We have had only 2 bad experiences (both dining) ever on all our trips and guess what? They didn't ruin our trips at all. Walt dreamt of this amazing place for families, and that despite not being wealthy, we scrimp and save to be able to experience all Disney has to offer. We know that there are families that will never experience the joy in their childrens eyes enjoying the magic and so for that, we appreciate every moment we have there. So, despite agreeing with PP that this thread should be much longer, about the only thing that surprises me is that so many people can't get over the quest for the perfect vacation, and enjoy a darn near close one.

I guess for me everything is pleasnt and that's no surprise. It's truly is a magical place...

We have small kids so we basically only do character dining.

Crystal Palace lunch was delicious! And Tusker House breakfast was even better!

It could have been that we were beyond starving both times but they are must do's for our next trip!

We also got both of these ressies the week of the trip. I had no idea about ADR's and all that at the time of that trip.

The ASMu foodcourt at dinner! What a nice surprise--I had a great turkey dinner one night, and the penne alfredo with parmesan chicken was delicious. If you time it right, it isn't at all crowded.

GF Cafe we have eaten there quite a few times, the first time because honestly we could not get in any where else it was for breakfast nice place great food & service. Then one time dinner it was great the fish I had their was better than the fish I had at Coral Reef.

The Plaza-we stopped by atfer a meltdown from DS, it was like an oasis. Good basic snadwiches, killer milkshakes & a/c.

Pop Food Court tons of choices.

To be honest we have always enjoyed the food at WDW. the only thing that was just barely ok were the Nachos at the CS in Mexico.

The salmon at Crystal Palace!!! Oh my goodness, it's not just a char buffet w/ mediocre food, the salmon is fresh and wonderful and so were the desserts!

EOS at DTD. A real oasis for our family. Such a great selection of sandwiches!!! A real change from the burgers, etc at most CS places.

San Angel. Had read the horror stories, ate there last trip anyway, the corn chowder was outstandig and so was our sampler platter. I see by the menu both items are no longer offered and I'm really bummed. The sampler is now avail. at the CS mexican rest. so we'll probably try that next trip. Our kids love quesadeas which again, is a nice change from burgers, hot dogs, mac & cheese...

Skillet meal at Wilderness Lodge.
