Has anyone heard an inside scoop of what they are planning to do with this building? It seems such a waste of large Main Street space and is such a pretty buidling being covered by those ugly refurb walls.

Early in the year rumors were flying that the gallery may be relocated there, but a CM guide on our Lillybelle ride earlier this month told us that the Gallery was slated to go somewhere else (but he wouldn't tell us where). So now I'm really curious what they are planning to do with the Plaza Pavillion buidling.

If you don't know the answer, what would you like to see put there?

DM, I was wondering the same thing.. How long have the refurb walls been up? I don't remember them being up last month, but I don't remember paying much attention anyways..

I don't think I can picture the gallery there. I don't know what I would want there though, that's a toughie..

My understanding is that it is going to be turned back into a restaurant.

I wonder how large a restaurant the area could acommodate?

I'm a lover of DLR who would love to see (DLR) at least attempt to deliver food options on par with WDW.

Two obvious (to me) choices would be a 50's Prime Time type restaurant (since DL was actually open in the 50s :)) & / or a Brown Derby (since the original was in SoCal & NOT in Orlando ;)).

Or a good pasta or seafood joint.

As best as can be determined, the kitchens in New Orleans Square need to go down for a long need rehab, and the kitchen at the Pavillion will pick up the slack. That is the "word" right now.......

That is what I have heard as well.

ON my Walk in Walt's Footstep's tour, our guide said it used to be a resturaunt, but it was turned into an admin building (or something of the sorts) and now it is being turned back over to foods, so one would assume it will be a resturaunt again.

I remember reading that as well, but I thought that was for when the Riverbelle Terrace was being refurbed. I can't help but think what a waste of a beautiful building to just use it as a "back-up kitchen". It's just another example of wasted space (i.e. people mover track) and with construction walls around it, it's an eye sore. I hope they will restore it to its former glory soon and do something special with it like Hound suggested.

I lifted these off of our Orlando branch's board:

Both would be natural's in DLR (although the Brown Derby might be a better fit in a location where wine & beer is allowed).

New Orleans Main Kitchen need a refurb, so Pavilion's kitchens are getting fixed up so thay they can be used for the NOS restaurants while NOMK gets reburbed. No plans right now to open Plaza Pavillion as a restarant again.

Funny you should suggest a "50's" type restaurant. There used to be on at the Disneyland Hotel (well sort of). It was located just below the monorail and was called, "The Monorail Cafe". They had some really good food in there. I have been thinking about that and the old "bar" they had there too "Neon Cactus". I love reminiscing.

There is also an employee cafe under pirates called, "The West Side Dinner", which is a 50's style.

I too think a 50's theme would be great.
