Along the lines of playing the SWA game, I now enjoy playing the National Car Rental Game. This one is easier to play.

1. Book a reservation through National Emerald Club. Not an Emerald Club member? CLick here for free membership:

http://www.nationalcar.com/index.do...r=2&header=2&source=blank.gif&sourceCode=9998

2. Book a reservation when you know your dates. Be sure to take advantage of the many coupons and discounts available. The best page I know about discounts is here:

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=63&threadid=790643

page down to the National Coupons and discounts.

Now comes the game.

No sooner than two weeks before your trip, click on the specials to go link

http://www.nationalcar.com/

click on "specials to go" on the upper right

now click on "last minute specials"

Find your airport and see if anything is offered. MCO is almost always offered.

Now once you find your fare, be sure to use any coupons that the system will allow you to use. (see above link)

When I orginally booked my reservation a few weeks ago, my cost was $180 for a full size for May 3rd through May 7th. Playing the game and using the last minute special trick, I am now paying $105. (both fares include all taxes and everything else but insurance.)

Be sure to cancel your first reservation. There is no penalty if you forget.

Saving $75 for a few minutes work is not bad.

If you have any questions, please ask!

Hi Neal,

I've been playing this game too and just today got my full size, 10 day rental in June to go down from 276 to 199. I used the Sam's Club code 5026004 and the $35 off e-coupon: ND2119071Q. There is a Kroger code too: 6600334 which brought it to 211. Anyway, just wondering if you have ever forgotten to cancel another ressie w/ Natl and not been charged? I heard they can charge you 50.00. :confused3

Pick me - I've been playing too. :thumbsup2

I had a compact for $179, but decided I needed to change my times to return the car a little later. It worked out great for me with code:
#8572957
coupon code # ND2119071Q

I got two more hours to play, and brought the rate down to $148.99 and recieved an upgrade to a compact from an economy! I am also in the Emerald Club.

My dates are Oct. 10-19!

I'm very happy and to be honest sick of checking so often, but was rewarded with a great rate!!!! Dis Boards rock!! :worship: Thanks everyone!

Watch out for that "57" code....You might have to produce a TA ID in order to use it. Hope not, its a great code..............

In addition to this "57" code, this code will not take any other coupons off. I try using the $35 off coupon. It says coupon accepted on one line ($-35), then it credits the coupon back.

I called National and the rep said that seeing that this "57" code eliminates alot of the taxes and surcharges, the code showed accepted then not accepted.

At least for my reservation in August it does.

We forgot to cancel one ressie last year and were not charged. I did however call a day later because I remembered we had an extra ressie and they didn't even take the number. One time I had the reverse happen. We had ressie and we were layed over in Atlanta due to weather. I called and said we would not be landing until the following day and I was told that I would hav to pay the new rate...it was something like $900 more than I had booked for. I was furious and said I will pay the original rate even though I am missing a day...nope, they would not let me do it. I hung up and called back and asked to speak to a manager who had no problem charging me the rate I was quoted...I did have to pay for the day we didnt use it but that was OK with me!

May I just ask what a TA ID is? I just used this code and got a ten day rental for $191.60 from July 4th to July 13th. :flower3: :worship: :worship:
Thank you so much....I have been agonizing over this for days. I couldn't get a car for under 335.00 using just about every site possible!

Just back yesterday from trip to WDW (4/26 thru 5/2). Used *57 and Coupon ND2119071Q for a total of $92.07 for Emerald Aisle Intermediate. No problems at all! We picked our car (Toyota Rav4) and at the check out shack, gave the lady our driver's license, Emerald Aisle card and Visa. She did not hesitate, ask any questions or anything. She was very pleasant and made small talk, gave us our cards back and a receipt that said $92.07.

When we returned the car, the man with the scanner printed out our receipt without any questions. It too said $92.07. I just now got our emailed receipt and, you guessed it, bottom line - $92.07

The 57 code is a Travel Agents Code used by Travel Solutions and their employees. So they might ask for your Travel Agent License. Lawgs seems to of had great success with it so maybe I myself will give it a whirl.

Hey Lawgs did you also have a back up ressie just in case?

Oh my gosh that's such great news. Thank you for letting me know.

Thanks so much, I think I will just hope for the best too!!!:goodvibes

I have a question about this back up reservation that people ask about. If you are Emerald Club, you just get your car and drive out. You don't find out whether you have a problem until you are at the check out shack. What do you do if they ask for ID that you don't have? Turn around and put the car back?

We usually have a back up reservation....and yes, back up and turn around unless your back up is at the same place.

If you have a back up reservation - when do you need to cancel it by? Is there a penalty for not cancelling?

It worked out great for me with code:
#8572957
coupon code # ND2119071Q

This is so tempting! I can get a fullsize for $128, instead of $188, for 3 days and 3 hours. I do currently have a ressie with Alamo for $94 for just two days, but with that I'll have to take ME back to the airport. I'd rather just have a car to drive back to the airport. :thumbsup2

In my experience in the past, I never have cancelled a back up reservation unless I totally knew I didn't need it. As long as you don't reserve with a credit card, there is no penalty. You really just have to read the fine print.

(OP-sorry to hijack the thread a bit....)

nsalz - We're going to be there at exactly the same time!! We're staying at ASMu the 4th & 5th, and SSR 6th-13th. We'll be touring AKL (desperatly trying not to add on over there, but it's calling to me!), maybe we'll see you!

I know we love it there. Our home resort is the Boardwalk, but couldn't get in because I booked to late. I was happy they had an opening at AKL. My second favorite. We are actually going to SSR in August for a few days to use up some points that we would lose in Sept. if we didn't use them. We have never stayed at that resort, I am looking forward to it.

I am sure you will be hooked on AKL, it's amazing!!:goodvibes

I just thought I would give everyone an update and let you know that we used the Code #8572957 and Coupon ND2119071Q and never was asked for any coupon or id's of any kind at MCO/National. :thumbsup2 We stayed 10 days and our bill came too $161.00 when coupon was taken off at airport. I originally thought it would be $191.00:thumbsup2
