"Playdate" Should they have provided lunch?

Most definitely would have served lunch! That mom was awful to let those boys go hungry!

In a couple of years, you won't be making lunch for your dd, and you won't be making lunch for her friends. A transition happens. I make ds11 lunch every day (when he doesn't buy), and on weekends. Dd13 makes her own lunches. It's hard to imagine, but they grow up.

Now, one of my best gf's has an only child, and is Cuban (she claims they are raised to take care of their men). She's going to be making his lunch until he leaves the house, but she also makes lunch for her DH (which I rarely do).

Really? At that age boys are hungry ALL the time and old enough to speak up. Now, if that Mom had stood guard in her kitchen and refused all food and drink then yeah, that's awful, but not to offer it, sorry I just don't think that makes a person awful IMHO.

 ITA

At this age, I can't imagine that one of them didn't say to the hosting boy..hey whatcha got to eat, I am starving!

My ds's friends know the rules..first time I show you where the kitchen is and where the fridge is. You are new to the relationship. Subsequent visits mean you ask ds whats to eat or you search the fridge yourself. At this age, there is no way I would make a lunch for them. I keep frozen pizza, hot pockets and other things handy. They are well old enough to know when they are hungry and when to start looking.

They are smart enough to leave the dirty dishes and the 1/2 empty water bottles and soda cans around for me to clean up when they are done so I figure that is my contribution to the gathering!
