Playdate question. Do you think this is rude?

Thank you guys for that.

I went to see the movie Avatar while dh's parents watched my girls. I couldn't even focus on the movie (GREAT movie, by the way!) because my mind kept wandering to this play date and how guilty I feel. I just never want to be the mean type of mom, ever. I never thought I was until this. Ugh.

Well, I definitely learned my lesson and next play date I'll probably put out a smorgasboard to compensate. :) Sorry, if I sound like a dingbat. I can be that way sometimes.

I fully understand overcompensating, I've done it forever.

She's forgotten it. If it's still getting you down, just call and chat with her mom; you can lightly mention having had a bad day and "forgetting" to give the girls their "intended" snack.

now you feel guilty and changed your post?

I wouldn't sweat it, as easily as the child asked her friend for a snack she will just as easily forget it.

I always felt guilty. I didn't change the post! :)

Don't feel guilty! The little girl has forgotten about it and so should you! Next time just offer a snack when the girls are playing, they will probably be so busy that they won't even take you up on the offer!

Op, I don't think at 6 the child was rude. Most playdates offer snacks. It would be rude to demand a certain food, IMO.

My wife would have fed them. At age 6 she doesn't know better but should be taught soon I would think.

I was expecting an older child, not a 6 yo.

Normal behavior for a 6yo IMHO.

I don't think there would have been any harm in offering a simple snack during the playdate. Especially if this was after school. Young kids eat frequently.

Don't feel guilty--but just remember that a 6yo still has much etiquette to learn and sometimes their tummy grumbles throws all etiquette out the window.

I wouldn't fret that any long term damage occurred. But next time, I perhaps would set out some goldfish or something just in case the young ones get hungry.
