Going to be on the Dream in a couple weeks and stopping in Cozumel. I’d like to take the ferry over to Playa del Carmen to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe and check out anything cool that’s by the ferry pier. Anyone done anything like this? Any suggestions?

Playa del Carmen is a really neat town.

We stayed there for a week and really enjoyed strolling and exploring all the shops and restaurants. (You can totally do better than the Hard Rock Cafe.)

Be warned : While Playa del Carmen has plenty to offer, the ferry there can be dreadful. Both times we took it, someone got sick during the ride. The second time, they were passing plastic bags around before we left the dock and half the boat used them. It smelled of vomit. Kids were crying….

I never get sea sick or have any problems in rides or transports and I had to concentrate very much on not getting sick myself. My kid made us promise we would never take that shuttle again.

Are there times of year when the waves are better and worse?

Both times, we were there at the end of February or beginning of March. Others could chime in about their experience in late Fall or early winter. The problem has to do with both wind conditions and the types of boats they use. The second time, it was so windy that they had trouble keeping the gangway from falling in the sea.

Also, since the boats are jet boats and hydrofoils that go extremely fast, it makes for a bumpy ride.
