Plasma or LCD?

We have a DLP Panasonic 50" and love it. Actually we had the Sony in our room at the same time as the Panasonic. Long story on was going back and was waiting to get picked up.

We had the Sony Wega but found the picture was too soft compared to this one. I couldn't watch it. Sony is know for warm picture over cool colours.

I think at the time we bought our tv all the places said the when the plasma runs out of gas you need to replace it. This tv has a light bulb and when it blows out , you change it and it is like a brand new tv again. That sold us too. Didnt' want to spend all that money and in a few years have to get a new one again.

I just can't see it (LCD over Plasma, I mean). There is really no comparison in the picture between a plasma and an LCD...the plasma wins, hands down (contrast ratios are MUCH better, and the colors seem to be richer). Plus, the "burn-in" danger is mostly just a myth on newer sets. After the first 100 hours of usage, the danger of that just about disappears.

Hmmm....still thinking about it, but I'm definitely leaning towards the Plasma.

Yes- the plasmas have improved immensely, burn in no longer a problem and picture clarity is not even comparable.

DH researched tvs for 6 months, and we ended up getting the panasonic 50" plasma. $2000.00, it's highly rated and what a price! It's a real beauty, and Wii is soooo much fun to play on it.

we just boight our first hdtv and i did a lot of research. we actually ended up buying a dlp instead of plasma or lcd for a variety of reasons. i liked the picture better, it was closer to our price point and we got more size for our buck, and i liked the pros/cons of dlp better than the other two.

Honestly ...for the money this is one of the best tv's out there....Go check the reviews. It's actually a Sony Grand Wega SXRD (cross between LCD and Rear Projection) Quite possibly the best picture out there. I did some research and everyone that has this TV loves it and swears by it over both Plasma and LCD.

The link is to the 50" but it goes up to 70"

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 We just got this exact tv, the 50" 1080. We love it! It has an excellent picture, and with HDTV the picture is as good as a plasma. We got a good deal on it at Best Buy, and it cost a lot less than a smaller plasma tv.

We had originally purchased a JVC 56" tv, and after a week exchanged it for this one. I'm so glad we did, because the difference in picture quality is very noticeable.

DH works with display systems (military aircraft display manufacturing) and says he would get LCD

I FOUND A GREAT DEAL ON A PLASMA FOR ANYONE INTERESTED! THE PRICE IS AWESOME FOR A 50" SET. It's a Samsung for $1499 at Frys! Check it out! You have to put it in your shopping cart to see the price.

Also, I looked up Samsung in Consumer Reports and it came in just under the Panasonic in the ratings. Panasonic is one of the most popular and top rated Plasmas. We have a Panasonic and love it.

The colors on plasmas are supposed be sharp for 10 years (with normal viewing), so don't worry about the TV life. After 10 years, you'll be ready for a new set anyway. Technology changes too quickly these days.

I bought a Sony 42" LCD 1080p. I love this set. Sony doesn't even produce a plasma screen anymore. They believe LCD is the future.
