We have such a fun night plan - I was wondering if anyone else makes a party out of election night? We're fortunate enough to vote in a small church multi-purpose building. The church ladies cook tons of food and sell it at reasonable prices. After voting, our family chooses from items like fried oyster sandwiches, chicken corn soup, red velvet cake, etc. Then, while eating, we chat with people in the community - some we haven't seen since the last election!

After all that, we're planning to gorge on popcorn and stay up late watching the returns. We may play some board games and cards as well. I gues its like a holiday to my family!

Anybody else do something special?

Sounds like fun!

I will probably camp in front of the TV and watch the returns...there are some pretty tight local races, it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Sounds fun w/food, friends and specially red velvet cake :goodvibes! We'll probably have pizza and salad, stay up late watching returns, have dessert, and pray for change!!!

I will check on returns from time to time - I am going to be sitting at the computer anyway (since the 50k words for NaNoWriMo won't write themselves!), so checking returns will be a nice distraction. . . I mean, research. Really. 2010 returns have everything to do with a Edisonian/steampunk style YA novel, right? ;)

No plans - Tuesday is Biggest Loser night. Some things are more important than a piddly election.

Heh. That'll be on the tube - DW watches that and another show on Tuesdays - yet another reason for me to check things on the internet instead of the news stations. :rotfl:

I always watch news channels that support the side that is losing. Bitterness and whining perk me up.

I never thought to make a party out of it-sounds like fun. As kids we always got to stay up "late" to watch the results. We would put our sleeping bags on the floor in the living room and watch--of course we MIGHT have stayed up a whole 30 minutes later then usual, falling asleep in front of the TV but we THOUGHT we were staying up late :lmao:.

The ploy of a smart mother and one I used often when the kids were younger. Sometimes its just easier to say yes;)

I will enjoy the peace and quiet of my phone NOT ringing with politicians!
Are they exempt from the "Do not call list"?

Tuesday and Thursday are soccer practice nights, elections or not. I'll be on the field, trying to stay warm while DD's team practices. Afterwards, we'll go to our usual "after practice" neighborhood pizza joint for some dinner. Then, shower, homework and bed.

I'll put on a DVD and try to avoid watching regular tv.

Love it :rotfl2:.

I flip around a lot - I love to hear the different perspectives - the celebrations and the whining.

We're watching Castle and Hawaii Five-0. :p

Vote for Danno! ;)

Politics are a big deal in my family so we'll be watching the returns tonight for sure! DH will likely be camped out on the PC and I'll be switching channels between all the news networks to see how things are going. Both of us are headed to the polls in about an hour and will wear our "I voted" stickers proudly all day to remind others to vote after work if they didn't get it in before work.

It's so hard to drum up excitement in others for a mid-term. :sad2: But I think it's important that everyone exercise the right that our forefathers fought and died for. Who's actually out there voting is the way I weed out the true Patriots vs. those who just fly the flag, give lip service and call themselves Patriots. If someone can't be "inconvenienced" by voting in an election, then I take their words about how they feel about America with less credibility that I'd take someone else's words.

I work for a statewide elected official so Election Night is usually a big deal for us. In past years I have been fortunate enough to be at our state election HQ and mingle with all the candidates, hear the speeches live, etc. But, my boss is not running for re-election this year so I think I will just stay home with a giant bowl of popcorn and watch the results on the tube.

I spent the day yesterday doing campaign events, so I am totally burned out right now on this kind of stuff.

Of course that decision may change as the day progresses. I may not be able to resist!

Totally agree. My middle child is very into politics - loves the debates, etc. I can't wait to see what happens tonight!
