Plans Changed:Komen RFC at Disney This Year

I just got off the phone with representative of Central FL Komen Race for the Cure and he told me that it WON'T be at Disney. He said the date and place weren't confirmed yet but looks to be on Oct 13, 2007 in Orlando. So no doubles for us RFTT runners.

He said it has been hard to get a date from Disney and that they have outgrown AK. They only had the choice of EPCOT(sponsor conflict) and WWS(no dates in Oct). Slim chance that they might put it on at Disney but that would me the race would be moved to September.

That's too bad. I loved that race -- and even love it here at home (the emotion, the brave survivors, the ones walking in memory of those who are no longer here) -- but it was great being at Disney and getting all the free stuff. That's really a shame.

Oh no!! I am sooooo disappointed! I loved doing that race last year and was really looking forward to doing it again! I wonder what other venues they might be looking at in the area. I know there are a lot of 5K events held in Orlando, but the idea of doing the race somewhere else just doesn't inspire me the way doing it at WDW does.

I just saw on Disney's site that the Komen Race for the Cure 5K will be held at WDW on Sept 9, 2007. I guess they felt better to move to Sept rather than do it somewhere else.

The event will include a timed 5K, a 5K fun run, a 1 mile walk, and Kids' races.

I sure wish this would have been the same time as RFTT! Then I could of did it. Oh well!

Thanks for the info, Robert. I really enjoyed doing it last year both because of the cause and also because my slow pace was not a problem. I will be looking forward to doing it again. especially since a friend of mine who is a breast cancer survivor will be here in Orlando at that time. I hope hurricane season cooperates!
