Planning trip to Scotland & Wales!!

Hi Guys,
We are planning a family trip to Scotland & Wales in 2009, and could use some help!! We have never been to either place. I've only been to London in the UK.
Any help/suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated!!

We were thinking of going in either Summer or October...We want to rent vacation homes, no hotels, but maybe some B&B's... It will be me, DH, DS5, and (hopefully) and infant (We're trying to get pregnant ). I have found this awesome, 400 yr. old house in Snowdonia National Park in Wales, and I REALLY want to stay there, it looks SO beautiful. I really have not a clue as to what to do in Wales!!

Then, we were going to stay a few nights in Edinburgh, and then head up somewhere North, to see the Highlands. We DEFINITELY want to go to Loch Ness, but other than that, we have no idea. I'll be getting some books, but I'd like to get some onfo. from real people too, ya' know?? We're only wanting to do a few days in Edinburgh, b/c we really would like to stay out of the congestion of cities, we're more into the outdoorsy type stuff. I'd love to see some castles. DH is interested in getting family tartan (sp?) stuff, and doing more local, as opposed to touristy, stuff.

Please help!! I'd like to hear anything!! Even if it's only, "Don't go there!! Or here!!"

Summer would possibly be better as October can be very wet and windy.

i live in llandudno,which is in north wales.llandudno is a seaside town,not too far from snowdonia.we have a castle,about a 5-10 min drive away,in conwy.conwy is a little town,within the castle walls,which you can climb & walk round.
i will also send you information,about the surrounding area,it really is no problem,just let me know,if it will be useful to you
