Planning/Trip Report: WDW Wine and Dine Half Marathon 2013

I'm not sure what came over me when I signed up for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. I've never ran more than a 5K and I've only done that once (Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend Jan 2013).

But I had so much fun at the 5K that I kept running, and I haven't stopped yet. March came along and I looked at the RunDisney events and thought "I really wish I could run a half marathon, that would be one of the proudest moments of my life." Next thing you know I've signed up, bought new running shoes, subscribed to Runner's World magazine, and started training.

Now, I'm aware that getting to that level of fitness and successfully completing the race requires more than wishing on stars. So I am finding ways to stay motivated, to keep training, and I plan for success.

The purpose of this thread is to document my planning and training, and the resulting trip. Hopefully someone else out there will find it helpful or encouraging. :goodvibes

Review: I subscribe through my KindleFire. Problem with Kindle subscription is Runner's World (not Amazon's fault) releases the Kindle version a bit late. But if you are a patient person, that is not a big deal. I love the colorful spreads, the highly informative articles, and the advice given. I have really learned allot reading this magazine, and find it a great inspiration when I'm not feeling up to running.

Review: AMAZING. This may save me $$$ because the app on my iPhone uses my phone's GPS to track my route, distance, and pace. It tells me (through my speaker phone or headphones) every 5 minutes how far and fast I am going. It saves me money because I won't have to buy a watch to help with training. If I have music playing it will cut into the song and tell me my stats and then the music will automatically come back on when the lady's voice stops. I can go online and see my runs, routes, and statistics. I can share my successes with my friends (RunKeeper friends), and I can post to Facebook through RunKeeper so all my Facebook friends that don't use RunKeeper can see how great I am doing! This helps me gather encouragement from my loved ones and buddies! :goodvibes

Crown Princess what is your runkeeper username? I LOVE that app and use it for all my runs. Lets be street team members. :-)

My username is OregonGirl and my real name is Carey. I am running the Wine & Dine this year too. It was my very firsy half marathon two years ago and I loved it. Never looked back. Have since run the Princess and the Disneyland Half.

I have fallen off the running wagon just a little bit these past few months (and gained some pounds, ack!) but I am now back into serious training and am excited.
