I am planning on staying 2 weeks in Orlando and for the first time in more than 10 trips it is going to be Disney only (no Universal/ Sea World/ Busch Gardens).

To save some money I was thinking about staying onsite (value resort) for a week and offsite (for free) for the other week.

The question: Is it possible to book a week in a Disney Resort and buy the 6 day ticket BUT don´t use all of my tickets during my onsite stay? Or do I have to book 2 separate things (book the hotel and then buy the tickets). Sometimes there are some good offers when I combine room+tickets, right?

When: One week after presidents day in 2017 (end of february/ begining of march)
Family: 5 adults and 2 kids

I am sorry if it is a little confused.

Please share your thoughts!!
Thanks

you definitely don't have to use all of your park passes during your onsite stay. no need for two separate reservations that i can think of.

on a separate note, if you're looking for money savings, why stay on-site at all? Gotta be a thousand bucks for a week on site, at least, no?

I believe your tickets will expire 14 days after the first use/park entry, so still within your trip window if you don't use them all during the on-site portion.

Not as good as staying offsite for the entire time and buying your tickets from Undercover Tourist. You can get a 4 bedroom house for about $100 per night. Nothing onsite even comes close to that.

One thing: if you're going to stay offsite, you'll need a car.

IF you book room+tickets together through Disney, sometimes there are discounts you can get (like free dining or a stay-play-dine offer). If you want to buy longer tickets and continue to use them during the off-site stay, just make sure you do your hotels in the order you listed. You can use them for 14 days from first use, no matter where you stay, BUT if you wanted to stay offsite first, I believe you can only pick up package tickets 3 days early, not 1 whole week.

Staying off-site is something I´ll consider, but I´d like to take advantage of some of the perks, at least for a short period of time

We did a split onsite/offsite stay a few years ago. I did the offsite portion first, because I didn't want it to feel anti-climatic by staying onsite first, so I booked it as room only and bought the tickets separately (I used UT) and it worked fine. If you wanted to book a package for your onsite portion, then you would have to do that first if you wanted to include tickets long enough to cover for your offsite portion. Both options are doable.

Unless you use a shuttle, which is what we did. No driving, no parking, no trams, drop off at the gate every time.
Most offsite shuttles are not good - very limited pick up and drop off times (often only 1 or 2 a day) and most only go to the TTC.

I'd be happy to introduce you to our favorite. They picked us up at Windsor Hills and dropped us off wherever we wanted. We had different times every day, and our guy even lets us change the times - he was very flexible. On our second MK day he dropped us at Contemporary, and picked us up at Poly so we could ride the boat back. Can't say more about our shuttle driver this past week.

ETA: Only $50 round trip for our group of 7.
