Hi, I am hoping that someone can give me some advice for our June 2013 trip. We have always stayed at our home resort (VWL) and have had no issues with getting a studio. We are hoping to book Boardwalk next June (the last week) at the 7 month window. Should we make a reservation at our home resort now just in case there is no availability when our 7 month window arrives or should we just wait it out and hope that we can get a room? I don't want to keep a reservation on a room that we might not need however, I am not sure what the likelyhood of getting a room at a non home resort would be. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If I know my travel dates, I always book my home resort at 11 months even if I know I plan on trying for a different resort at 7 months. That way, I know I have a room if for some reason I can't get one at the other resort once the 7 month window opens.

If you want to proceed with other reservations, like your airline and rental car, you really want to know you have somewhere to stay for your specific dates. There's no guarantee that something will be available at seven months, so booking during your home resort priority period is a good plan.

One thing to keep in mind is the point difference between the room you want and the home resort room you book as your safety plan. If the home resort is more points, will you still be in your banking window for the points that are freed up? If not, will you be able to use them before they expire?

Thanks for the advice. I will take a look at the points needed for our home resort vs. the Boardwalk and see if it will work out for us. Thanks again!
