Planning our first trip

Planning our first trip. myself, husband two adult children (21 & 18) and the girlfriend and boyfreind (18 & 20). We will be going in late April/early May or the middle of May 2005. Still trying to work on everyone schedule. What are the crowds like at those time? Waiting time in lines (etc). Best on-site Hotel? Or should I rent a Villa at Old Key West? Do I need to rent a car? We will be stay for 10 day and 9 nights. Thanks
